14: Sign O' The Times - Prince

Not sure if I've said this already over the last 7 years but Prince can make a great song, and he can make a terrible song. And I think this one is terrible.

12: Midnight Blue - Lou Gramm

I don't hear this one enough. There are some songs to me that are quintessential rock and roll songs and this is one of them. "This Time" by Bryan Adams is another one. Not that they are the best or my favorites of all time, but they represent the rock and roll sound.

2: Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship

Fortunately I didn't choose one of my #19, #80 or #96 candidates and went for the one that was #2. But frankly, I was in doubt about all of them even being on the Hot 100 this week. My friend's kid also picked this one.

1: Lean On Me - Club Nouveau

My friend's friend picked this one, making it 11 weeks in a row of picking the #1 song. Unreal.

Bob "Like A Virgin" #1
Bob "Down Under" #1
Bob "That's What Friends Are For" #1
Bob "Celebration" #1
Bob "Could've Been" #1
Bob "Centerfold" #1
Bob "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" #1
Bob "Lost In Your Eyes" #1
Bob "Can't Fight This Feeling" #1
Bob "Billie Jean" #1
Bob "Lean On Me" #1

Will never get into the top 40
#46 Paul Lekakis "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)"
#49 Herb Alpert "Keep Your Eye On Me"
#51 Survivor "How Much Love"
#56 Gregory Abbott "I Got The Feelin' (It's Over)"
#57 Cover Girls "Show Me"
#58 Georgio "Sexappeal"
#59 Ratt "Dance"

That was a great one. We used to play it back when it came out. It's too bad it doesn't get played more.
#61 Run DMC "It's Tricky"
#65 Beastie Boys "Brass Monkey"
I thought these would have made it to 40.
#86 Night Ranger "The Secret of My Success"
I thought the movie would have pushed this one higher.
#90 Julian Cope "World Shut Your Mouth"
I hated it when it came out, but it grew on me.

40: Serious - Donna Allen
Alan mentioned that Donna Allen had a bigger hit a few years later with "Joy & Pain". Maze featuring Frankie Beverly made the original and the chorus of "Joy & Pain" by Rob Base was from the same song.
38: I Will Be There - Glass Tiger
Bryan Adams sang background on this one too.
35: What's Going On - Cyndi Lauper
I didn't realize it then, but this was a really bad remake.
29: Dominoes - Robbie Nevil
These were same background singers used on "C'est la Vie". The song made me think about pizza.
28: Brand New Lover - Dead Or Alive
I can't believe these lyrics were in this song: "Your sweet nature darling was too hard to swallow".
23: As We Lay - Shirley Murdock
Mark shared that he didn't remember "As We Lay". I wasn't surprised because the song didn't have a video. It was very popular on my local urban station. Shirley Murdock also sang background on "Computer Love" by Zapp.
22: You Got It All - The Jets
I can't believe Rupert Holmes wrote this...

So many good songs ... leftovers from 1983!

40. ONE IN A MILLION - THE ROMANTICS
37. THE KID'S AMERICAN - MATTHEW WILDER

The tale of two two-hit wonders (and their lesser top 40). The first one, I sang along to every word. The second one, I kept thinking "I don't recognize this at all, who the heck is this??"

39. TO ALL THE GIRLS I'VE LOVED BEFORE - JULIO IGLESIAS AND WILLIE NELSON

849ec66b71f5b46eaaf54fdc6fd56492.jpg

33. NOBODY TOLD ME – JOHN LENNON

Someone picked this song as their guess at this week's #1. I was shocked to see it as an entry. It peaked at #5, which is higher than I woulda guessed.
