I have both the Foreigner one and the Midnight Oil one in my library. I have no recollection of every hearing them. I own both the albums. Listening now they are both good. But still no surprise that neither broke the 40.
"What you see is What you Get" was the follow-up to "I Still Believe".
"Sayin' Sorry" peaked at #31, and #6 on the Dance chart. Denise Lopez appeared in the forty this one time, but had further success on the Dance chart.
Monkey was the eighth of George Michael's ten number-one hits (including duets). Michael had produced all of the earlier hits but he co-produced Monkey with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. He called them in because he liked their remixes of the songs from Janet Jackson's Control album. The remixes appeared on an album cleverly titled Control: The Remixes, released in Japan, Europe and the UK but not in the United States. Jam and Lewis did not remix the album version of Monkey. "We totally recut the song from scratch," Jam told Billboard, "George re-sang the vocals. We actually sampled some of the vocals from the old version and combined them with the new version, which he sang a lot more funky." Jimmy Jam played drum pads on Monkey.
Here is a version that claims to be a cappella but really isn't. It includes percussion and synthesizers.
I hated Wham! then and now. Aside from Faith, I didn't like any George solo back then or now either.
I was just looking over some of the songs on Faith and stumbled on the last track. Did George write this for Bill freakin' Cosby?!
It’s late
Time for bed
So I sit and I wait
For that gin and tonic
To go to your head
I know
It’s a devious plan
But it’s the only way that I know
To get those big bad car keys
Out of your hand
You know
That I remain a gentleman
But even so
There’s only so much
A gentleman can stand
Sleep with me
Oh
Sleep with me, tonight

Two of my four potentials are only in there because I don't know when they hit #1. One is some time after June. The other, no idea.
