2026 Movies and TV Shows

No Tuesday Special Movie for me this week. I was going to see "Hoppers" but there were too many crazy kids there.
Instead, I picked up a small tub of Pop Stop Popcorn, grabbed a can of Twist (WalMart), went up to my room and pulled out of my DVD collection for my annual March viewing, "The Clockwatchers" with Parker Posey and Toni Collette. This is the first time I watched it using my electric throw blanket, I got last year, on my chair. A most relaxing late afternoon.

This is the first time in about 3 years that I’ve been able to see all 15 short films (animated, documentary, live action) ahead of the Oscars. Some years they are quite elusive.

When I signed up for Wolf's Basketball bracket, I saw ESPN/Hulu has an Oscars Pick em Contest. The "Singers" has 75% of the votes for Best Short Film

Same here. Regarding DTF St. Louis, where do they come up with that shit? And I should note that the college dean on Rooster was one of the "Bobs" in Office Space.

This is kind of an aside, but the setting of St. Louis got me thinking. For one, does Jason Bateman have some association with Missouri? There's this show, and Ozark, and probably others. And it got me motivated to look-up St. Louis on a map. Here's my Captain Obvious observation: the state of Missouri looks a lot like Pennsylvania, in terms of having a big city within an urban area on the eastern border (St. Louis/Philadelphia), and then another big city in a rural area on the western border (Kansas City/Pittsburgh). Well at least I now know where those two Missouri cities are located, which is pretty good for an east coast guy.

Allow me to muddy the waters for ya...there's actually a Kansas City MO and a Kansas City KS. The city spreads out over the MO/KS border - there's even a street creatively named State Line Road that acts as a divider between the 2. I live just a few minutes from State Line on the MO side ( unfortunately ).

Yes, I knew that. But it's kind of a single metro area, right? And then surrounding that metro area, you have Kansas - which is more rural than Illinois, the area outside of St. Louis. It appears to be a lot like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, regarding the surrounding areas of Ohio and NJ.

Speaking of NJ, the NYC metro area has a similar type of spill-over as Kansas City. The NJ side of the metro area is just as densely urban as the NY side. There's even a city stupidly named West New York in NJ.



And until I looked at this map, I had never seen DUMBO before. It's an acronym for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass". Pretty dumb-oh.

I'm going to blow off the HBO Max shows (Rooster and St Louis) for now for "Imperfect Women" with Kate Mara on Apple starting March 18.

That's all I can handle with Ncaa Tournament coming up. But I look forward to hearing what is said about the HBO shows if anyone finishes watching them.

I was seeing a bunch of very good reviews War Machine.

It's with the guy who plays Reacher and it's about new Army Rangers fighting some robot alien.

It was a little fun but not a good movie. It was like a mediocre Predator movie except the Predator was just a big robot. Pam and I watched it today and when there was about 40 mins left we decided to FF 20 mins and we really didn't feel like we missed anything.

Shitty action movies I like are the "Whatever has Fallen" series, with that Australian guy who plays an American Secret Service badass. Those movies suck but I find them fun. This was along those lines but less fun.

I thought War Machine was a pretty great action film. It felt like a mix of Battleship and Cowboys & Aliens, with intense military action and a science-fiction alien threat. The robot design also reminded me of the machines from War of the Worlds, which made the enemy feel powerful and intimidating. The ending had a vibe similar to Independence Day: Resurgence, setting up the possibility for a larger conflict in the future. There is already talk about making a sequel to War Machine, and if it happens, I would definitely be interested in seeing where the story goes next.

You got the basics, yeah. Most of the real "city" parts of the metro are on the MO side. KCK actually has it's own downtown, which is pretty rough.

I live about 5 minutes from downtown KCMO in Midtown. If you've ever heard of the Country Club Plaza shopping area, I'm pretty much right between that & downtown.

I went to see 'The Undertone" today for my Friday the 13th thrill. I got my favorite seat E19 back. I guess you would call it satanic. I probably haven't seen one of those since "The Exorcist". Good sound effects in the room. I was a bit confused with the wind in the background though. It is super duper windy today and I couldn't tell if the wind noise was coming from outside (I was in theater #1) or in the actual movie. Then I could hear some people leaving so I tried to take a peek
upward and swore everyone left except the guy behind me in the first row after the walk lane. But when the movie was over there were still people there. This is my first experience with Nina Kiri. She did a great job keeping you on the edge. This is definitely a have to see at the theater movie. I can't see being as scared at home unless you watch undisturbed at midnight.

Sunday they are having an Oscar Watch Party in the theater bar. I was thinking we could go but watching from home would be fine too.

And I went to my second movie on this fine Friday the 13th, tonight. "Reminders of Him" I've had this one circled on my watch list since last November and was planning to watch it next Tuesday but my Sweetie said she wanted to go and we thought it was best to go today instead of Tuesday with her schedule. Plus she had guest passes. It was a nice one to go to with her. Good story, good music and had the Alberta Rockies in the background. I'm glad she did not go to my first movie today.

I'm definitely not going next Tuesday. I'll just browse my DVD collection in my room. I've been meaning to watch my NBC Mystery Movie DVD's. I have McMillan and Wife and The Snoop Sisters. Or maybe watch "Music and Lyrics"

I also saw the Classic Movie Showing Schedule
Citizen Kane in July, Gone With The Wind in Oct, The Maltese Falcon in Dec. They had others but not interested

Academy Awards are tonight.
In my mind, no film stood above the others this year, like Oppenheimer did in its year. A lot of good films though.
One Battle After Another, and Sinners, will probably take home most of the top prizes.
I've seen basically everything nominated in all categories except for Sirat and Avatar 3.

I know I shouldn't be concerned but I will be curious whether Hulk Hogan will be included in the Memorial tonight.
I watched the Actor Awards on Netflix last month and he was not included. He did make several movies. Maybe not very good movies but they were movies.

He also had a bit of a racist diatribe which pretty much trashed his reputation. He even disappeared from WWE webpage & history for a while. But he has returned there and even came back to WWE after the scandal.

But in terms of contributions to movies, I guess it depends on if they honour only the big stars or everybody that dies that ever appeared in a movie. My guess is he won't be mentioned.

Can't imagine the Hulkster makes the In Memorium roll, but I'd be OK if they did it by showing the clip from his home porno where he's bitching about being a pig.

I'll hold my comments on the winners for now.

I'll just say I was interested in all the categories this year being that I was able go to the movies in the middle of the week last year, for the first time in my life.

Before I would pay attention in the last hour. It also appeared that Rose Byrne and Anne Hathaway were wearing the same dress (type)

Conan O'Brien did his usual good job with the opening skit. But my 2 takeaways from this broadcast are

1) This is what Pedro Pascal looks like without a beard; pretty unrecognizable



2) What's up with the sad-sack Burger King ads? With the new CEO, they're on this "we screwed-up and lost our way, but we're gonna make it right" sentiment. They even admitted that the creepy giant Burger King head guy was a mistake. But no mention that for the past 5 years or so, their campaign has featured a guy who can't sing, singing. Is Burger King about to go belly-up?

A lot of your votes won. I finished 11-13 in my Oscar Pick'em. How about that tie for the Short Live Film. You liked "Singers" and I liked "Two People Exchanging Saliva" Could you imagine a tie for best film or actor. I was glad One Battle won The Best Cast. I guess that would mean that lady picked Kevin Tighe to be in the movie. Even if they would not have won best film. Happy for Michael B Jordan too. I still have to finish"Sinners" but a fan for doing the Creed movies

I saw the first episode of "Imperfect Women" on Apple. Kate Mara was killed in the first 10 minutes. I guess she will only be shown in flashbacks going forward
