Last night I saw the first three "Return of the Living Dead" movies. The first one was funny, the second was a little boring and the third was interesting. Also, the third one had Kent McCord (Officer Reed from Adam-12)!

The two highlights of the evening were:

1. Discovering that I can pre-purchase Graveyard Shift tickets with my special "free tickets for one year" card at the box office. I was worried it was only accepted on the day of the show and a bunch of these sell out.
2. Someone came up to me after the last movie and told me how much she enjoyed "Anguish", the film I picked that showed last week. I was so worried no one would like it.

The pick was not done anonymously? I thought only us @ DRC knew you picked it.

I bought the movie office space cheap today. I never would have heard of it if not for the movie madness.

Oh boy you're in for a treat!

Do you really only want to wear the minimum number of pieces of flair?

I hear that this will be inserted into the movie in compensation.

I hate this story and wish I never read it. I love space movies and was looking forward to it. I still am but now I won't be able to get this story out of my mind as I watch it.

imo, there are 2 reasons for this. First is less disturbing to me because it's purely economic. They want China money and the less the USA is overtly represented, the better it may do in that region.

Second is that I feel people like Ryan Gosling think that everything America does wrong is solely a blemish on the USA and everything America does right is a "Human achievement".

Fuck this category. Popular films get their recognition in the massive box office success they achieve. Oscar movies are the quality films that may not draw same the mass market success. That's what makes it so special when movies like LotR or The Dark Knight or Mad Max: Fury Road manage to do both. These popcorn movies don't need more rewards.

Now if you want to get into Alex Jones territory here, one may think that the Oscars are on ABC and ABC is Disney and Disney is Marvel, who makes all the popular movies so that's why this whole new category is being considered.

Tonight I saw "Madeline's Madeline". It's a challenging, artsy fartsy film about mother-daughter relationships, mental illness, immersive performance, and ultimately, the unavoidable truth that all art is theft. I loved it. Because I'm in Oscilloscope Laboratories' "Circle of Trust", a Blu-ray of it will probably be sent to me.

Last night I saw the new Nicolas Cage horror film, "Mandy". Most, including me, loved it. Some hated it. It's a bonkers Orphic tale of love and mayhem, and it starts with one of my favorite songs.

After that we saw "The Devil's Rain", a 1975 horror film with William Shatner, Ernest Bognine, Ida Lupino, Keenan Wynn, John Travolta, Tom Skerrit, Eddie Albert and Anton Szandor LaVey, High Priest of the Church of Satan. It was like a "Love Boat" episode where everyone's face melted and Ernest Borgnine turned into a goat. It was not as much fun as it sounds.

Last night I watched a classic horror "I Married A Monster From Outer Space" which came out in 1958. I thought the film was great and Gloria Talbott played a powerful leading role in the film.

Here is a list of movies coming out between now and the end of the year that I'm interested in seeing. A bunch could be Ocsar movies.

I was making this list for my own reference on the desktop notepad while listening to a movie podcast and I added a little tag to all of the movies to remember why they interest me. Mostly it's all about directors that made stuff I liked. There are a couple in there that caught my eye but I think will likely suck.

They are in order of release date.

FALL/WINTER 2018 MOVIES

Hold the Dark -
Netflix movie, kinda like Wind River 09.28
The Old Man and the Gun - from A Ghost Story guy 10.5
Bad Times at the El Royale - from Cabin in the Woods guy 10.12
First Man - Space movie, shitty flag deal 10.12
Apostle - from Raid Redemption guy, Netflix movie 10.12
Mid 90's - Jonah Hill directed movie 10.19
Boy Erased - From The Gift guy 11.2
The Girl and the Spider's Web - Dragon Tattoo movie, likely shitty 11.9

My entertainment movie podcast had a separate show. They were talking about some movies that could possibly be Oscar materials and some of them premiered at the Tronto Film Festival.

I need to try and find that show and check it out. I could get a head start for next year Oscars.

Only movie, I heard on that list is "First Man" which could possibly be good.

We just watched it. Bonkers is about right.
It was good, weird, & funny. It could have been done by Robert Rodriguez.

Last night I saw "Dunken Master", the 1978 Jackie Chan film. It was the 70s English dub, so everyone was calling each other "turkey" a lot. I was so sleepy I dozed off during the climactic fight.
