I was watching SyFy and saw a commercial for another Sharnado movie, which is coming out on Aug 16th. I saw them all but the 5th one. I missed that one somehow last year. Maybe SyFy will do a marathon of all the movies.

Last night Mrs. Bag and I saw "Good Manners", a Brazilian werewolf musical. What a disappointment. The idea is great, the performances are all excellent, but the film is just too long. Telling the same story in 2/3rds the time would have made it a good movie.

Brazilian werewolf musical should have been your first clue.....
That was what drew us in. Also the programming director said it was his favorite film of the year, it won a bunch of film festival awards, has a 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, etc.

There's a good Brazilian werewolf musical in "Good Manners", but it's hiding behind 45 minutes of tedium.

Last night's Graveyard Shift movie was "Martyrs", a 2008 French film. Everyone warned me that watching it was a traumatic experience. It's pretty gruesome, but it's also a fascinating movie. Not your run of the mill torture porn. Check it out if you're brave.

We saw Dog Days this afternoon. There were lots of cute dogs in it. It was one those movies where the have different stories until the very end where all the characters get connected. Kind've like Mother's Day and New Years Eve

I saw the latest Mission Impossible movie last night. Like life, it was too long and too stupid. The one I saw in 2011 was much better.

Everyone makes a big deal out of Tom Cruise doing his own stunts. It looks like he did some of them, but some had to be CGI just because of the physics. And the fact that you can't distinguish those visually means it was dumb to do any of them.

Saw 3 movies since Sunday. A bad one, an ok one and an almost good one.

BAD - Action Point
I was hoping since I loved Super Troopers 2 that I could find another low rated comedy I'd enjoy. I was wrong. Some of Johnny's stunts were fun but the movie was awful. 2/5

OK - Adrift
Shailene Woodley and some British guy act out the real life story of a sailboat that got caught in a hurricane in the 80's and then was adrift at sea with them on it for like 2 months. It was ok. There was a twist that was nice but kinda obvious. Some heartstrings emotional stuff that was sweet too. Really the highlight of the movie was Shailene's nipples. They were on display more or less every time she was on screen. Even when she was dying on the boat it was still kinda hot. And she did a topless scene too which was nice. I wasn't expecting that from a PG-13 movie. 3/5

See what I mean:

Almost Good - Upgrade
Man I was hoping to love this one. I went into it thinking it would be the 4th movie I add to my 2018 top 5. But it was a disappointment. I remembered Meme saying it wasn't good and was hoping to disagree with him. My favorite movie reviewer loved it and I usually agree with that guy (Anderson Cowan) but not this time. Meme was right. It took too long to get going, a lot of the plot was kinda dumb, and once again the twist was silly and predictable. There was some parts I really liked though. A lot of the fights were cool and there was one awesomely brutal killing. The way they shot the fights was neat. And the very end second semi-twist was ok. 3.5/5

So my top 5 of 2018 list still only has 3 spots filled so far:
1. Annihilation
2. Super Troopers 2
3. A Quiet Place

Now that the summer is ending it's time for a slow month or two and then a ramp up towards Oscar season. I wonder what will come along next to fill the last 2 spots or even bump some of the 3 off the list? I doubt A Quiet Place will make it through to the end of the year.

Here my list so far that I have seen in the 2018 movies, from best to worst. That includes in theaters and Netflix, I'll watch Deadpool 2 sometime this weekend. I believe there some other Netflix movies, I have seen which haven't been added to the list yet.
