Now i'm getting around to watching season 5 of OITNB and so far the prison riot is fun to watch.

Ok, I saw "It Comes At Night", the 2nd feature from the guy who made "Krisha". I was disappointed. It was so ambiguous that it felt pointlesss. Bad stuff happens for a long time and then the lights turn on. "Krisha" had a lot more going on, a lot more to think about and a great central performance. This didn't.

huh, bummed to hear that. i've been looking forward to this one and i'm debating taking a solo, midday bike ride to the theater to see it today.
 
it comes at night was ok. i think i liked it more than you meme but it's not one that will be memorable. tuesday is the cheap day at my theater so the ticket was only $6.20. for that price it was worth seeing. there were a few solidly tense moments.

depending on how you interpret that it could be a compliment or insult to either one or both of us. :)

I'm glad you liked it. I highly recommend "Krisha", the first film from that writer/director.

Drafthouse has cheap Tuesdays, too. Tickest Are Cheaper On Tuesdays, aka TACO Tuesdays. They also have tacos.
 
I just completed the 5th season of OITNB and it was alright. The beginning was good, felt they made the riot lasted a bit too long. Me personally, I think the last episode should had been moved up a couple episodes and found out what happens next. Now I have to wait another year to see what happens next.
 
The Bags saw "Nise: Heart of Madness" tonight. Memegirl really wanted to see it. It's a docudrama about Nise da Silveira, a Brazilian psychiatrist. I liked it more than I thought I would. The art was interesting. I have trouble with Jungian psychiatry and the bigger movement Dr. Silveira was part of that led to closing state mental institutions. But the tacos were delightful.
 
Sorry Koop your favorite tv won't be making a comeback, probably a reboot with a twist.

‘Golden Girls’ Reboot In The Works, But There’s A Big Twist

According to Unicorn Booty, James Berg and Stan Zimmerman, two of the writers from Golden Girls have created a brand new pilot for a very similar show, which would feature four older gay men living together. The show is said to be called Silver Foxes, and while no cast has been set yet, the writers are pitching the series to streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu in hopes of getting a bite.

Stan Zimmerman is very serious about the series and even recently hosted a reading of the pilot script at his own home, where he invited beloved gay actors like Leslie Jordan, George Takei, and Bruce Vilanch to partake. Todd Sherry and Cheri Oteri were also said to be in attendance for the Silver Foxes reading.

I would certainly watch this show, but I could do without Bruce Vilanch, he certainly no silver fox. The show needs Anderson Cooper, the ultimate silver fox! :brow:

Couple of these actors are not gay, but I would cast Richard Gere, George Clooney, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Anderson Cooper along with Leslie Jordan, Tim Gunn and George Takei. Don't mind me, these guys are hot! :lostit:

Netflix has spoiled me and now I usually wait to have all episodes of a season before I start watching. Such is the case with The Handmaid's Tale and oh boy it does not disappoint! Elisabeth Moss is stellar and so are Alexis Bledel and Samira Wiley. It's every bit a grim and depressing as one would expect from the book. They also do a cool thing with colors. It has an overall toned down palette to reflect the dark nature of the subject matter but then they will shock you with very harsh scenes of either all white or all red. It's a neat effect. They try to give Bledel a haggard look and it kinda works but she's so pretty it's hard to really pull off. Also all the critics who praised it for being so "timely" are a bunch of dummies. Comparably, this show makes life in North Korea seem tolerable, it's hardly a good example of real life where people are upset over 1 political cycle. If this show came out during the time of 12 years a slave, or if critics living in the Islamic State were sneaking out reviews then they would be justified in calling it "timely". Anyway, I'm loving the show and tore through 5 episodes today. It's making me want to go back and read through Atwood's catalog all over again.

Edit: Ok, while I'm ranting there are a couple things I forgot to mention. The show is tense nearly 100% of the time. Yet it is done in a way that does not feel forced at all. They also do a good job of modernizing. It's been years since I read the book and I forgot about the flashbacks to normal life before the war. I'm not even sure if there were flashback in the book but either way it's cool how they show what we currently know as normal life quickly devolve into the hellscape that is the main focus of the show.

Next up will be The Leftovers. I've said before it's my favorite TV show (w/doctor who) and I have the full final season of that to still watch. But with this one it will be more of a commitment because I think I'm going to start it over from the beginning before I get to the new season.
