2017 Movies & Tv Show

this isn't movie related but i mentioned crichton here a couple days ago when talking about the handmaid's tale and that led me to quickly google him. turns out even though he's been dead since 08 he has a new book coming out this month! apparently they found some manuscript and are publishing it. now i have a lot of thoughts on this. first off it's crichton so i'm happy no matter what it is and will get it right away. but i know this is likely not anywhere near his best work. he was famous enough to get anything published so if he wrote a full book and decided not to follow through it probably means he wasn't that happy with it. second, i wonder what his estate is really up to. my guess is that they didn't just find this work a couple months ago. they likely had it and were waiting for what they thought would be the best time to release it to make the most money. this is now the 3rd posthumous crichton novel. one of which the estate even needed to hire a secondary writer punch up before publication. whatever, i'll take any new crichton i can get and am now looking forward to reading about paleontologists during the gold rush.
 
I got the movie Kroc on my Amazon streaming and enjoyed the story. And I've been watching a few Goldberg episodes recently. Didn't see any theater movies this weekend.

it was a good antihero story. he wasn't really a villain but certainly not a good guy either.

The Beatles, Microsoft, McDonalds; so many occurrences where something was on the brink of ending then all of a sudden becomes incredibly successful.

It almost didn't work for Ray Kroc and it almost didn't work for the McDonald's brothers staying open for Ray Kroc to even get involved. Yet, Prince Castle which had great jumbo ice cream cones, burgers shakes and fries never came close to nationalizing and is gone. Good reflection movie
 
Last night I saw "The Lost City of Z". It wasn't very good. Pretty, but written like a History Channel special.

Three people next to me were talking during the film, which is forbidden at the Drafthouse. I asked them politely to stop and they did. When the film was over the woman next to me called me an "asshole". I told her at last I was a quiet asshole. That was my favorite part of the evening.
 
I shush people and glare at them.
I'm sooo sick of rude bastards that think they are watching a movie at home.

At the last Star Wars there was a family of 4 talking several people down from me. I shushed them and they got just a little quieter. After the movie I hear the woman say that it was a good movie. I asked how she knew since she talked through the whole thing. She said something like I should mind my own business. I snapped and called her a stupid effing beotch and said she wasn't home in her living room. Then I called her a hillbilly and walked away. Her husband just sat there. The people in the row in front of us were laughing at first, then trying not to laugh at the end.

We need a Drafthouse here so I don't have to deal with lowlifes.
 
Took the family to see "Colossal" tonight. Mrs. Bag and Memegirl liked it a lot. I liked it, but had a couple of criticisms of it. I recommend it. It isn't like any film I've seen before.

No one called me asshole. :(

yea i had some issues with colossal too. they seem to have bothered me a bit more. very cool idea, weird script.

saw 2 movies that were, to varying degrees, not as good as i hoped. first was free fire. while i did enjoy this one i was expecting to like it more than i did. it was fun at times but also not the humor filled action shoot em up i was hoping to see. the second was colossal. it's a cool take on godzilla but the writing was weird and parts of it seemed to come out of nowhere and not in a cool "i didn't see that twist coming" kind of way.

of the 2 i'd say free fire is worth a watch on netflix or the like and colossal can be skipped all together.

We finally saw The Gifted yesterday but had to go all the way out to west Madison to see it. Today we are seeing The Circle back at our home cinema. I also got The Dog's Purpose in the Amazon streaming and watch late last night.
 
dunkirk being pg-13 worries me. nolan is a great director and has made amazing pg-13 movies in the past but war movies usually need an R.

despite this it's still my most anticipated summer blockbuster.
 
Just came back from Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and omg it was fantastic, tons of action and comedy. Without giving anything away, if anybody stays for the credits there are 5 post credits. Now I see what the film will lead to vol 3 and possibly major part for Infinity War.

Gotta love Stan Lee cameo in the film.
 
I saw "Buster's Mal Heart" tonight. Meh. Overly complicated plot that doesn't really work. A lot of distraction from a ho-hum story.
