I guess you had to be there. He is a great pot stirrer without being an obnoxious jerk like stuttering john. His life was also great fodder for goofing. I wish they would do a special of nothing but Jackie stories (his shanty town, the jetty, Jokeland gets flooded, Beerfest with Nancy, his music, Nancy's music, etc...)

Good post, they'd do entire shows on Jackie crap back then when no guests where in and it was funny as hell.

The thing I miss most is when Fred would play the Jackie laugh during the most horrifying news stories.

I think back in the day all of the nonsense was just part of the deal. But I think that 9 years without Jackie gives them all some perspective that having him in would be a pain in the ass. Because of that, I don't think you'd get the show you think you'd get. It wouldn't be anything like the old days. There is 9 years of distance and growth that didn't include Jackie. IMO it would be less like the old days, and more like trying to fit Chris Farley into David Spade's jacket in "Tommy Boy" - tight and uncomfortable, and probably not good radio when stretched out over 5 hours and several days.

I dont know about you, but every time I saw chris farley squeeze into david spade's jacket, it created comedy gold!!!!

another thing is, jackie coming back would bring back a brand new era of gary ball busting. and imagine sal and jackie breaking gary's balls.

jackie would even break howard's balls, and thats something thats been missing since forever.

I like the fact that Howard doesn't thinks it's funny to bust Jackie's balls, but not vice versa....because Howard is better at it, or what?

The fact that Howard, Fred and Robin do not want him on the show even for a day or two shows just how soft they got! They are so weak!

I've been critical of the idea for a long time and said that advocates of this are living in the past. But a caller on the WUS made a good point. It would be therapeutic to have them in the studio busting each other's balls (or ovaries in Robin's case). Jackie's guest appearance on the show have been fun as hell. I think doing that would win back a lot of fans and would be a nice sign of good will towards the listeners from Howard. Of course not everyone likes Jackie, but it would be a sign he cares.

Plus something is definitely missing from the show, and it would never be considered if Artie was still there.

Uh, I've been saying it since 2006, on this board and on the original board.

Although I'm not crazy about the circumstances, just the fact that people, and by people I mean the fans that were always firmly in Artie's camp, are at least entertaining the idea.

I've always said, what would it hurt? Bring him in for a week for a "turn back the clock" sit in. I would love to hear what the old crew could do on satellite. At this point, it's probably the only way the show would approach being interesting to me.

I think they don't bring Jackie back because of all the SECRETS they all have now. Jackie, when pushed, doesn't hold back, and they're afraid of that. He'd talk about Robin's boyfriend, take shots at Beth, etc. Even when Jackie last visited and called Beth "Nancy Siriani", Howard couldn't take it.

Imagine Jackie laughing when Howard talks about Beth making him get a cat. That would be great. And Jackie doing a Robin impression and talking about her boyfriend.

Hahahaha! Jackie you are awesome. I hope he comes back for a day at least.

The ball busting that Howard and crew did on Jackie's ex-wife Nancy's projects would pale in comparison to the material Jackie has now on Beth. It would be wonderfully funny and Howard sadly will never let that happen, never.

With Arties attempted suicide looks like Jackie's return may become a reality.

like I said, I wouldn't mind jackie coming back sometimes. it'd be kinda funny IMO. jackie hasn't really gotten a chance to be on the show for real and not as a guest since they have been on sirius.

oh really??? I didn't catch that. LMAO, thats great cuz its true. Howard definitely couldn't take that. I hope that howard wouldn't try to handcuff jackie if he were to come back.

Thats too bad, you missed the golden years of the show.

I must disagree. The Artie years are the golden years. In the Jackie years there may have been more good bits (Stuttering John ambushes, for example), better interviews (he had a larger audience and got more A-list guests) and better musical guests (James Taylor) but day-in and day-out the Artie years...and particularly the Sirius Artie years have been the best for me. Jackie claimed to be this great writer but most of the Howard quips were too instantaneous to have been written. The numberous sketches in the Jackie days generally featured a lisping homosexual and were not clever. ...outrageous yes but not clever. It's hard to quantify what Artie did because he was constantly quipping on the sidelines using brilliant, instantaneous associations. The no-commercial format permitted lengthy riffing sessions that I will miss. The only thing Jackie was good for was getting shit upon by Howard and Robin for his unbelieveable ego and his amazing belief in how funny he was.

I disliked some things back then too, In light of the Artie troubles reveled today I will not comment on him, But, back in the earlier years, Howard and Fred also wrote the lisping homosexual bits with Jackie (Howard and Fred wrote a lot of stuff back then as opposed to now) so to blame only Jackie for the bits you didn't care for is incorrect.

No it isn't. I can undestand that some people that were fans didn't like Jackie, but quite a few of the callers and emailers (of those that are answered) really seem to be sheep and Howard has turned them off Jackie, who only laughed loudly at his own jokes (which is a lie if you listen to the history of Howard Stern....Jackie would laugh at things in tapes as well as comments by Robin and guests). I don't think this is the right time to bring him back, though. It would definitely freak out Artie. And bringing in anyone else would do the same....please don't attempt Seatfiller Era 2. Artie won't be the only one cutting...too soon?

Howard and Fred were way into those bits also... I don't just blame Jackie who is probably less homophobic than Howard or Fred... but those were the the bits back then when Jackie was "Head Writer"... what else did he do?
