Yacht Rock playlist

That chart does take me back. Probably familiar with almost all the songs on that countdown. Not familiar with 18 and 13.

I reported on the last time I saw Trooper concert , the first without the last original members, in the concert thread. Short version: don't bother catching them.

Trooper formed in 1975 in Vancouver and continues to tour in 2024, but with no original members. Here is Real Canadians:

The song "Real Canadians" was written by Trooper about/for their fans. It contains 3 specific stories of the band's experiences with some of their fans.

For reference:
"a cold night in a hot town" refers to Vancouver, BC
"a hot night in a cold town" refers to Saskatoon, SK
"a retirement party in a naval town" refers to Halifax, NS.

Yacht rock is meant to invoke thoughts and images of sailing on the high seas and bay cruises and having fun in the sun.
I believe it can also be defined as "music that is rock, but certainly doesn't rock, meant to invoke images of a very-overweight wealthy consumer-screwing trust-fund stuffed-suit egomaniac behind the wheel of an overpriced yacht with a glass of Dom Perignon, a bimbo half his age sunning on the deck, and the stench of Chanel No 5 mixed with a B.O. that's been marinating in his armpits for 3 days, because jumping in the ocean for five minutes is basically like a shower right?"

Does anyone in particular come to mind?

The character doing the filler voicing on SXM's Yacht Rock channel is a snotty, rich, cheese-eating yuppie with popped collar stereotype.

In a series of Bloom County strips beginning January 31 1989, Donald Trump is hit by a falling yacht anchor, his brain is transplanted into the body of Bill the Cat, he buys Bloom County, then renames it Trump The Strip and fires all the characters.

On April 1, SiriusXM's Yacht Rock channel, 311 on the app, began simulcasting on channel 15. Channel 15 was promoted as Yacht Rock's "new permanent home." Well, it wasn't permanent. Pitbull's Globalization moved today from channel 13 to channel 15. Taylor Swift's limited-run "Taylor's Channel 13: The Life Of A Showgirl" launches on September 20.
