I thought "Mannheim Steamroller" was the correct answer.

I’m researching this and keep seeing the Statler Brothers mentioned, even though they didn’t form in the 1970s.

The Heritage Singers were formed by Max Mace in 1971 and have recorded more than 200 albums. Several are Christmas albums. I doubt the group has sold 30,000,000 albums and I doubt Mace began as a country songwriter but that is my guess. It was either them or Mannheim Steamroller.

Mannheim Steamroller
Congratulations, Aaron!

This week's subject was Mannheim Steamroller, the popular new age music ensemble formed in 1974 by Chip Davis, who remains the group's sole consistent member.

Davis began his career working in orchestras and eventually got into advertising, creating a fictional character named "C.W. McCall" for Metz Bread. In 1975, Davis and the voice of McCall, Bill Fries scored a #1 hit with "Convoy", capitalizing on the CB radio trend.

Davis formed Mannheim Steamroller and their first album, "Fresh Aire", was described as "18th century rock 'n roll". However, there's one holiday that's quite special to Davis and Mannheim, and that's Christmas. Their 1984 recording of "Deck the Halls" is considered a vital holiday classic.

We're off until the new year. Happy holidays!

"Congratulations, Aaron"? Hectic guessed Mannheim Steamroller two days ago! I offer my congratulations to Hectic.

If Herbie Mann (Hijack) had formed a supergroup with Oliver Heim (A Different Life), Steam (Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye) and the Bay City Rollers (Saturday Night), he could have called it the Mann-Heim Steam-Rollers.
