Congratulations, Aaron!
This week's subject was Mannheim Steamroller, the popular new age music ensemble formed in 1974 by Chip Davis, who remains the group's sole consistent member.
Davis began his career working in orchestras and eventually got into advertising, creating a fictional character named "C.W. McCall" for Metz Bread. In 1975, Davis and the voice of McCall, Bill Fries scored a #1 hit with "Convoy", capitalizing on the CB radio trend.
Davis formed Mannheim Steamroller and their first album, "Fresh Aire", was described as "18th century rock 'n roll". However, there's one holiday that's quite special to Davis and Mannheim, and that's Christmas. Their 1984 recording of "Deck the Halls" is considered a vital holiday classic.
We're off until the new year. Happy holidays!
