When is the confirmed date when and which CC stations going away?

That's the date I've heard, but WSIX is saying end of July. We can only speculate, because SXM will not release any info on this matter until it happens. We should open another thread in programming to voice opinions on what we would like to happen vs what we think SXM will do.

Whenever they go, I really hope SXM takes that extra bandwidth and gives it to many of the existing channels to improve the sound quality. The CC channels always sounded better than the SXM channels.

Is Clear Channel Talking Up a War With Sirius XM?

After their 12+ year partnership (if you want to call it that!) ends with XM in the next few weeks, looks like CC/iHeart will be SXM's main competition... will be interesting to see how this plays out :churn:

Fans of Sirius XM Radio have typically dismissed the surprising success of Clear Channel's iHeartRadio, and rightfully so.

Sirius XM has been able to grow its user base every single quarter since the launch of the terrestrial radio giant's streaming app, closing out its latest quarter with more than 25 million subscribers.

A common knock for iHeartRadio is that it's primarily a music platform, despite the presence of comedy channels. However, Clear Channel is making things interesting today by introducing talk content.

Magnetic and sometimes polarizing radio icons Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Ryan Seacrest will be available. In an intriguing twist, you may be available, too. The new digital platform will be opened up for anyone angling to make a podcast.

We'll see how this plays out with Sirius XM, which itself reports quarterly results tomorrow.

Sirius XM has been able to withstand the onslaught of free streaming apps before, but as the competition broadens its offering, it may limit the pricing power of the premium satellite radio platform.

Sirius XM has still gone on to hit new five-year highs this month, shaking off the challenge posed by Pandora's growth and the upcoming rollout of Apple's iTunes Radio.

Given Sirius XM's scalable model and high fixed costs, every incremental subscriber is worth more than the one that came before. Slow growth is fine. Stalling or potentially going backwards is something else entirely.

Investors may want to monitor the success that iHeartRadio has here. The ability to tune into hundreds of terrestrial stations online was a novelty at first, but the application raised its game two years ago by introducing Pandora-like music discovery features. It's the same platform that Apple is gunning for with iTunes Radio later this year.

Now iHeartRadio is becoming more like the talk radio that many associate with the listenership experience. Sirius XM still has its proprietary content that's worthy of a premium, but it can't ignore the changing marketplace.

so were down to under 7 days to Aug 1st and now that CC is pumping there I heart app and talk channels
Do we have a confirmation from a reliable source that takedowns will happen on 8/1 or the end of the month?
and which ones to give more BW and more satellite channels to SiriusXM?
Let the speculation begin :)

11- KIIS
12- Z100
13- LITE-FM
57-WSIX
241-WGCI
242-SIXX SENSE
243-EXTREME TALK
244-AMERICAS TALK
246-TALK RADIO
247-FOX SPORTS RADIO

When they first announced this I'm pretty sure it was Aug 31st.

I like iHeartRadio for the app on my phone.. I really do wish they would allow secondary access to the straight streams, though.. Not everything I want to listen to radio on has iHeartRadio. I can usually make a stream work, though.

Radio's Art Bell returning with Sirius XM show

Art Bell, radio's master of the paranormal and outward edges of science, will return to the microphone on Sept. 16 with a new nighttime show on Sirius XM Radio.

Bell was one of radio's top syndicated voices in the 1990s before walking away from his nightly show in 2002 due to family issues. He worked occasionally after that but hasn't been on the air since Halloween 2010.

"I missed it terribly," said Bell, 68, whose weeknight show will air live from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET. Sirius is building a studio at Bell's rural Nevada home where he will work.

A Sirius representative contacted Bell through social media a few months ago, leading to the formation of his show, "Art Bell's Dark Matter." He'll talk about things like UFOs, ghosts, near-death experiences and weird aspects of science. He'll do interviews and take calls from viewers.

Scott Greenstein, Sirius XM president and chief content officer, said the show will be "uncensored, unrestricted, uncluttered and utterly unique."

"There's probably more interest in the genre now than when I did it," Bell said. "When I did it, I was damned near alone."

Bell was on some 500 radio stations nationwide and "quit when he was at the top of his game," said Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers, a magazine that covers the radio industry.

Harrison said Bell's subject matter has roots in old-time radio, and he predicted it will become popular once again in the coming years.

"He'll be looked at as one of the veteran, old masters," Harrison said. "He's the real deal when it comes to marching to the beat of a different drummer."

There's also a potential rivalry with George Noory, who replaced Bell on the syndicated show. Bell isn't a fan, saying he considers Noory "not edgy enough." Noory's program is on later at night, so the two will not compete directly live.

No contract terms were divulged.

Bell said he's intrigued to learn the differences between satellite and terrestrial radio.

"It seems to me they are the next step in technology," he said. "I've always been a technological junkie. The mix of what they're giving me, the freedom that they're giving me, is priceless." Miami Herald : Radio's Art Bell returning with Sirius XM show

Also, as per the title of this thread, on Channel 242 Sixx Sense, Chris Jericho has been announcing the end of his show will not come until Aug 31st, so it looks like we still have another month to go before all these changes happen.

Channels to Bring Back:

1.) Super Shuffle
2.) Wax
3.) Boombox

Move the following channels from Internet Only to Sats:

1.) Rockbar
2.) SiriusXM Fly
3.) SiriusXM Comes Alive or Red White and Booze (toss up)

Take the remaining bandwidth and sprinkle it out amongst all of the music channels to give them a better sound.

Whatever gain we do receive will likely go away once the NFL Season Begins. Don't forget about the MLB Playoffs, Start of Hockey, Basketball, and College Football Seasons as well as NASCAR Racing.

Good luck in really seeing the better sounding channels until Thanksgiving.

How about some love for the Canadian channels? As a 10 year XM sub, I was looking forward to spending a little time on those channels, but when they were finally put on our radios just a few months ago, listening to them in mono ended my interest completely. I vote for devoting a small portion of the new bandwidth to getting some Canadian channels in STEREO!

The Verge management did say there were plans to at least improve the sound quality of that channel. No mention of when, or if it was just an answer to get the fans off their back for awhile. :P

Wonder who they sold it to and if that party will be putting new content on SXM?

It will certainly be interesting to see what will happen. I always thought it was interesting that they chose to rebroadcast FM stations on an uncensored format. That would be similar to ABC shows being simulcast on HBO...it's like, why? If I want watered-down radio, I could unplug my Sirius unit and listen to FM.

Does the lack of "Extreme Talk" mean no more Artie overnight shows on the Sirius sports channel?

I totally agree- Who needs there commercial stations on a satellite service?
I hope that Z100 and KIIS go as well shortly therafter.

I thought DirecTV syndicates his show. If that's the case then He should stay on Extreme Sports.

Bring back:
1) Super Shuffle
2) Planet Jazz
3) There was another one but I forgot. :o

3) Revolution.

Maybe that was the one I was thinking of. I don't know, but it sounded good.

Oh, and a proper punk channel too. Faction doesn't cut it, but with the MySXM, at least that's halfway there. Not that I listen to punk, but I know a punk channel is missing.

Heck, you could do a MySXM of a punk channel:

UK ---- US
Less radio friendly ----- More radio friendly
Older ---- Newer

Ok, so I'm not sure what the middle one would be named, but you know...the fake stuff like Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, the newer Green Day, Blink 182, etc. The other option would be stuff like The Buzzcocks, The Misfits, MxPx, NoFx, The Sex Pistols, X, Rancid, The Ramones, old-school Green Day, etc.
