What's Shaws?
Supermarket chain.

I worked there 1989-1991. My son then worked there 2022-2023. One of the guys I worked with was still working there. A month ago, it was announced that the store is closing and that guy (Ricky) made it into the local papers.

Are you some kinda Dave Grohl?
If you think Dave is a mediocre drummer and can't sing, then yes.

It's a new day.....

March 8th, 1989.

In the latter part of 1988, the "nut" (1st wife) and I separated, a couple of months after our older daughter was born. At the end of the year, my mom suddenly died in pre-op. My father had passed 3 years earlier. Anyway, in the trauma and anguish of my mom's death, the nut and I got back together.

In March of '89, with some insurance money, we were making plans to add-on to the small ranch we were living in, in Southern NH. The addition was a 2-car garage with a great room over. The garage was located where the driveway previously came up to the house from the road. We turned the garage doors to the side, so we could have a new, flat, L-shaped driveway. The great room was a combination dining room and music room. I eventually had my stereo with the big speakers setup in there.

Shit dude, sorry. The randomizer sucked today.

I think you're talking about a ranch style home but I prefer to imagine you as a Yellowstone type cowboy wrangling cattle on your expansive ranch.

Don't start. I'll be provoked into getting really mean about soccer and then you'll get pissed and it won't be fun anymore.

History repeating itself.

You gave me like and took it back.

This was a Wednesday. So I was no doubt working at my first job in Toronto. 3 months before I was laid off. I think I had my first home PC then likely a 386 or a 486 maybe. It was before I started skiing. As to specifics ... I have none that I remember.

Did it have a mouse? I remember my mom's first computer didn't have a mouse and was all like DOS or something. There was no real OS. She had to type in individual command promps to get to any program.

She also had a printer that had those holes on the sides of each sheet of paper that you'd have to peel off.

I don't think so. No windows yet.

I'm glad everyone likes this concept! I had a lot of reading to do.

High five bro! I had my short-lived high point too. It'll come up as the dates get generated.

Back in high school, whenever someone said they had a girlfriend that didn't go to our school, the mandatory response was "yeah, and I have a girlfriend in the Niagra Falls area." I think it came from a movie? And translation is "we don't believe you."

I AM???

BENDER Well, Brian's trying to tell me
that in addition to the number of girls
in the Niagara Falls area, that
presently you and he are, riding
the hobby horse!

It was summer after my first year. I had switched majors to Computer Science. I was not cut out of the math and phyics demanded of an engineer. I did pass my first year but i had strong mental block in the field of physics.
I wanted to design cars, so I intended to major in mechanical engineering. However, my college had the same curriculum for all engineering students for the first 2 years. So I was exposed to circuit theory, chemistry, advanced math, physics, materials science, civil engineering (statics, dynamics, strength of materials), thermodynamics and fluid dynamics, and comp sci.

I wasn't enjoying the mechanical/civil courses. It was all stuff that was figured out in the 1800s. So I decided that electrical engineering and computer science was the future, and that's what I declared as my major for my junior year.

I was going to specialize in civil engineering. But specialization would not have happened until 3rd year as well. The first 2 years would have been common. Heavy on physics and math and other stuff that did not really interest me.

What did you do with the sand after the party?
Put it back into bags, lugged it back upstairs and put it in the garage.

One time I gave it to a neighbor for their kid's sand box.

Dealing with the sand was worse than the hangover that usually followed the party.
I'm glad that we retired those parties. We went out on top, like Seinfeld.
