Various Thoughts

1999 might have been the best year of the show outside any year from 2006-2008.

Just that week has Brad (the guy who dated Houston...I believe this was recently replayed on either 100 or 101) AND the Babapology tape!

Betwen those two events, the rest of 1999 doesn't really matter much.

I started listening in the Fall of 1998. I would say the Golden Era was 1992 - 2001. It would begin with Fartman on MTV and "Private Parts," but it's tough for me to say because I wasn't listening at the time.

I think it ended on 9/11/2001. Topics were never the same. We had wars, and then Nipplegate with the FCC crackdown. This would make the last topic of the Golden Age Pamela Anderson. Howard was talking about the night before, how he could have gotten her, when someone interrupted with the breaking news.

Not to say the show wasn't good anymore. It was and is. I would say the Silver Age was 1/9/2006 - Christmas 2009. Artie's suicide attempt ended that.

Again, not criticizing the show, and I'm not naming the interrum periods. Just my opinion.

There certainly were moments beyond 9/11 like that time with the bathtub and they all ran over to join in.

When was the show with the hot lady sunbathing on the nearby rooftop? That was also a good moment, but I think that was mid 90s.

But yeah, once Nipplegate happened, the FM show became a lot of complaining about the FCC and Andre/Dave with the button.

Here's an interesting read. And yes, I wonder what happened to that TV.
What are some of the great unresolved mysteries in the Howard Stern Show universe? : howardstern

No television was worth that, IMO.

That moment was when a lot of people got a DVR ASAP. I'd like to know the adoption rate of DVRs after that.

Speaking of such, remember when Howard talked about his TiVo unit the way he also talked about Apple? I thought I heard that TiVo shut down. Ok, maybe not, but TiVo Series 1 stopped pulling in guide data last fall. I believe that one only had one tuner (maybe two) and needed a phone line. I'm surprised so many were still in service.
I wonder what Howard uses now, especially since he has three residences. Apps? Slingbox? Suppose he has two or three different services between his addresses. I can totally imagine him going down to Florida and going to wrong channels.

Non-relevant sidenotes: A few years ago, he mentioned he no longer watches Survivor. We also know that Java lived past 2006. (Remember Java?)

richard either tans even worse than trump (look how the the area around his eyes doesn't match the rest of his face) or that it the red face of a serious drunk.

i don't care about that vocal fry character but i do still like the soupy impression.

Oh, that's what it is? Soupy Sales? I can only listen to about the first 90 minutes (roughly) each day and when I leave work, it's the beginning of a replay, so I usually have music on. Sometimes I'll listen during Thursday/Friday replays, but oh well.

...which brings me to my next point. If you listen to the Thursday/Friday replays when they start at 7am, it's Great American Nightmare usually straight into one of the celebrity interviews... it's interesting editing and it proves that someone still works on that kind of stuff.

I... I... uh I don't like uh talking uh chairs.

The vocal fry thing got a lot of focus because of The Bachelor. All the bimbos on the show talk like that. But he's getting a little carried away with it.

Today they were shitting on Bill O'Reilly, and at one point they played a bunch of those prescription drug commercials that they run on his show. It was pretty funny. And yesterday they played O'Reilly blowing up on Entertainment Tonight. I can never hear that enough. "We'll do it live! Fuck it, we'll do it live! Fucking thing sucks!"

If you heard the start of today's show, Robin's mike wasn't working again, and Howard flipped out. He started running commercials, and said the whole show would just be all commercials. He even had a guy call-in to request his favorite HSS commercials. "Can you have Gary come out and do Untuckit?"

That Bill O'Reilly clip NEVER gets old. And yeah, now that you mention it, I think I did catch the genesis of the whole vocal fry bit.

More fuel for the "Robin is at home" rumor mill?

It was "Inside Edition," which he hosted. Here's the video. It's even better than the audio.
