@kryptonite Not trolling, check the screenshot below. I'm at the spot where Howard had a few different people in, and now Artie is the regular in the Jackie chair. They're still talking about 9/11. In fact, in the 11/13 show Stern is insisting that American Airlines Flight 587 is another terrorist act (they will soon learn that Robin is right because she says it wasn't an act of terror).

@scotchandcigar Yes! Very true he did start that out as a mockery of stereotypical DJs of the time. I had forgotten about that. So, in that case, Jon Hein is basically being a "Morning Zoo" DJ - probably without realizing it - since he is not mocking the style like Howard, he's simply doing it straight.

I see Scott Ferrall is back on Sirius...where he's probably been for a while, but I just noticed/realized.

Channel 206 CBS Sports Radio weeknights at 10ET.

Edit: It's been a bit over a month.
Sirius XM Holdings Inc. - CBS Sports Radio Channel to Debut on SiriusXM on February 21

The background music is no longer a thing...when he first went back to FM, it was there, but way more quiet.

He just poured someone a shot and a beer so at least some things never change. :)

On today's drive home, Sternthology dug way deep into the archives. From 1985, we heard a clip where Howard was talking about a recently-signed contract. He was talking about how Soupy wished he got Howard-type ratings. John was the GM and even Don Imus called in.

I'm so glad these days are behind us:

''Ladies and Gentlemen I think you all know me, this is Tom Chiusano and I unfortunately have to read you the following announcement. Due to the recent actions by the United States Government and the Federal Communications Commission, the Howard Stern Show is no longer on our air. Neither Infinity Broadcasting or our parent company is willing to continue to put our licenses or our stock holders trust in jeopardy. Viacom can no longer bear the weight of the Government pressure and it's effects on our corporation. Please continue to listen to the station and other affiliates as we appreciate your loyalty and understand your needs. While we're sorry to end the Howard Stern Show, we promise quality programming in the future. Thank you.''

Howard was back live today (I think). He had Tracy Morgan on.

He started the show by gushing over a couple of Springsteen's lamest songs. Brilliant Disguise? Give me a fucking break. According to Howard, it's "the best love song ever". I hate how Howard has become aware of about 10 songs over the past 30 years, and in his mind, those are the only 10 songs that matter. It's like that Foo Fighters song The Sky is a Neighborhood, which (as I type this) is forever being forgotten by the music world.

I have no idea why, but the Zyppah guy reminds me of Ronnie. It's probably that same guido Italian/Jersey thing.

Streets of Philadelphia was a truly great song...haunting, evocative... all those kinds of adjectives. Think he got an Academy Award for it. Love the electronic music it floats upon (am I right?). I see Denzel Washington in my mind's eye whenever it comes on, even though he was not the HIV guy. Surely it cannot be dismissed simply as adult pop contemporary. Loved Human Touch also.

Just to clarify, I don't think they are bad songs. They're just not my thing. I did say 'suffer', but that was meant for those who feel the same way I do about them.

I think that the lyrics to Springsteen's songs that I've labeled as A/C are deep and meaningful. And I can certainly see why they appeal to many. I don't mean to take away from their power and emotion, and the connection people have with them. It's great that people are moved by these songs. But they still sound, on the surface, Delilah-style are very A/C. My mother-in-law wouldn't last 10 seconds into "Glory Days", "Hungry Heart" or "Prove It All Night". But she can do hours of Carole King, James Taylor, Crosby Stills & Nash, Christoper Cross.... and those mellow Springsteen tracks.

Another extreme example is..... Extreme! *rimshot* "More Than Words" is the polar-opposite of the sound they had established on their first album and with the first two singles of their second album. I loved "Words" back then, and still like it now, but no denying it was uber-A/C - nothing at all like "Mutha (Don't Want To Go To School Today)", "Kid Ego" or "Get The Funk Out".

I think Dancing In The Dark is way too pop sounding for me. But there's something about Girls In Their Summer Clothes that is magical and classic.

In general, I like when artists branch-out and mix it up, and it's OK to not like some of their work. The wife and I once saw Springsteen perform at Fenway Park, and as expected, he did an amazing (nearly) 3 hour hour show. We went with another couple (somewhat younger), and the wife is strictly into soft pop. She was "disappointed" with the concert, because they went on and on with extended versions of their classic hits, and didn't play enough songs like Human Touch. In the words of Artie Lange, Wahhhhh.

One of those is Bruce? Is this at the Jersey shore?
Yes. I am no good at mixing text and an uploaded photo. That Bruce on the left. That's me bodysurfing past him. It was taken in Sea Bright, NJ, at the end of September, 2017. He was having a beach birthday party for himself. I was not a guest. Just happened to be in the same ocean. My daughter took the photo.

Cool. I grew up in north Jersey, so I know where that is. Last year, a nephew of mine got married in Long Branch; we drove through Rumson on the way home, but we didn't spot the Boss.

The Boss sold his house in Rumson (I was born in Long Branch, I went to Rumson Fair Haven HS). The Boss has a horse farm property not too far away in Colts Neck .. or at least he did. Still belongs to the Chapel Beach Club in Sea Bright.

Unless you think about the lyrics. It was totally telling her to shut up and bone him. Very lovely music with a blunt message.

From the archives:

A fully-integrated Stern Show...a Jew, three black dudes, a sista...and Jackie!

I wonder what the "old show" would be like in today's environment...Howard having Savannah from Scores on and Jackie and Billy telling racist jokes amongst BLM and metoo.

A preview of Howard 360 is on the new app. It has short video clips.

I believe Robin Radzinski and Brian Phalen both left the show...so who does the camera work??

Listening to the Stern show from 11/30/2001.

Gary dropped the f-bomb live on the air on K-Rock . He was late and Howard & Stuttering John started busting his balls about his home life.

Howard hit the button, but damn... the producer of the show saying 'Fuck' in-studio on an FM station at 630am?

A few minutes later, Howard and John kept saying it looked like he was crying. Gary denied it but did say, "I can't talk about this anymore".

Still listening to 11/30/2001. Yucko The Clown's (Roger Black) second appearance on the show. Here is a little information I never knew. Yikes!

Stern: People hire him for kids' birthday parties. Little do they know the guy's a complete derelict. Hey Yucko.
Yucko: Merry friggin' Christmas!!
Stern: Hey.
Yucko: Hey!!
Stern: This guy's homeless and he puts an ad- you put an ad in magazines for Yucko The Clown and then when you show up for kid's parties, you're an anti-semite and a racist.
Yucko: Absolutely, and-
Robin: And a child molester, true?
Stern: Right, you've been arrested for child molestation.
Yucko: No, that's- that's way in the past. I don't eff kids anymore.
Robin: Oh. He's-
Yucko: I don't.
Stern: You don't? How do you stop effing kids if you're attracted to them?
Yucko: Well, you know, you've got therapy- twelve and a half step program.
Stern: Twelve and a half steps? What's the half step?
Yucko: The half step is...
Stern: Not effing kids.
Yucko: Not effing kids.
Artie: Yeah, that's what they added.
Robin: You mean he's been to twelve step programs and they managed to stop him from molesting the kids and nothing else?
Stern: Yeah, well they added- they added a half step.
Yucko: I'm just a little upset with you guys, that's all.
...
Stern: Aren't you afraid that when you're around all those kids you might be tempted to molest them?
Yucko: You know, I drool a little bit. But then I, you know, just keep moving on because I don't want to go back to the (??)
Stern: Were you molested as a child?
Yucko: Ugh... Uncle Morty.
Stern: Uncle Morty molested you? I can see why. You're very attractive.
Yucko: I don't really want to talk about that. I want to talk about the F-Emmy's. I want a recount, Howard! Come on!

A few minutes later, he whipped out his junk as he was leaving the studio.
