I figured everyone knows the eardrum is the common term for the tympanic membrane, because a tympani is a drum, and it's logical that it has to do with the ear. But I'm not an expert on the Canadian educational system.
If I memorized something as a kid, it is likely long gone. And I was never that into musical instruments so it is this moment that I found out it was a drum.

And as to educational systems, ours certainly can use some improving but you as an American are throwing stones from a glass school.

So, you haven't seen enough nickels and dimes in your life to have a mental image? That seems odd for someone your age.
If we analyze your sentence, we get our answer. Someone my age has seen a zillion nickels and dimes, but someone my age is more likely to say, "........ shit ..... I should know this. Aw fuck. I can't remember." To be frank, I forgot Lincoln was on the penny til you said it.

I think you overestimate everyone. And timpani isn't spelled with a y.

It would have taken me a minute to decide between the nickel and the dime, but I’d have gotten it right with the others.

I’d have guessed Wall-E for the last one.

I’d have guessed Wall-E for the last one.
So my original reason for posting these questions from Millionaire was to let you all guess the answer to this one (which I actually thought was hard)

And indeed, the answer is WALL-E. Surprisingly, Idiocracy is next, at the year 2505 (it takes a long time for evolution to make everyone stupid). Avatar: The Way of Water takes place in 2170, 16 years after the events of Avatar (2154). And finally, Alien takes place in 2122.

That was supposed to be a fun little guessing game, but it was totally sidetracked by those other (inane) questions.

I don't know what to make of this, but I suppose I can't blame drugs.
This is why a few years ago I started doing things to exercise my memory. Since his stroke, I see my dad can't remember most things, but the things he remembers are pretty vivid. Like he always asks about my father-in-law (Scott), but in my recent visit I said "Scott" and he said "who?". But he'll tell me stories of his time as a marine in the Mediterranean during Vietnam, including first and last names. So I do rock 'n roll crosswords, whatsamusic (name the song) and play along to the morning show trivia on the radio (I got 3 out of 5 right this morning). I don't want to end up going out to ice cream with you, and you say Koop, and I go "who?"

Once again, I'll use this thread to talk about Who Wants to be a Millionaire, while Jeopardy is still on hiatus. Last night, they had the CNN anchor pair of Jake Tapper and Kaitlan Collins as celebrity contestants. I thought this would be interesting, because A) they both seem smart, and B) perhaps they'd loosen-up.

It became evident that the pairing had the benefit of combining 2 generations; as Tapper is about 60, while Collins is maybe half that. So when a question about "The Love Boat" arose, Tapper was on it, while Collins didn't have a clue. And then later, Collins immediately knew the song "Hot to Go!" by Chappel Roan, while Tapper was of no help.

They stumbled a little with the $125,000 question, about a gold toilet art piece at the Guggenheim. But they used a lifeline and got through it. And then they got to the $250,000 question:

In my opinion, this is a flawed question. Because no person, other than Willy Wonka (as suggested by Collins) would possibly know this. There is no amount of intelligence, common sense, or reasoning that would lead a person to the correct answer; and no "expert" phone-a-friend who'd have any better idea than anyone else. After they used the 50-50 to narrow it down to "plug" or "pad", they called Abby Phillips, another CNN anchor, and she was also totally guessing. She guessed "pad" at the last second, and so they said "pad", and lost. It was "plug". There's really no logic to the answer; it's just what Hershey's calls it. The team dropped down to $32,000, and called it a day.

There was no way they could've known the answer, so they should've taken the $125,000 and quit! They went so far as to phone another CNN person, who clearly demonstrated that it wasn't a question with a "knowable" answer. They should have taken that as a sign to take the money (for charity) and run. I don't know what possessed them to guess.

Edit: Jake Tapper is 56, and Kaitlan Collins is 33. So they are definitely in the father/daughter realm.

Jeopardy is back, and the returning champ won again. And once again, he was trailing after the first round, and made an insane comeback.

However, he revealed this annoying habit of wildly shaking the buzzer. It's like he's masturbating or something. I don't know if I can keep watching.

The buzzer whacker lost in final Jeopardy. He was beaten by a bowtied nerd. But the question was interesting. I'm posting it here, to see if people can figure it out.
