A receipt won't tell you if a credit card skimmer was present. Skimmers don't change the amount, they just capture the card data.

I know a receipt won't show a card skimmer was present. But you never know what the ass on the other end my do. Say you pay $20 bucks, the hacker/thief could change it $40 bucks and use your credit card info on other purchases.

But the gas station receipt won't help you find that. The thief's transaction will show up on your credit card app/web site. Since you are checking your app/web site, you don't need a receipt.

Again, I don’t care if I get a receipt. I usually keep my gas amount at a certain range anywhere between $20 - $30 bucks. So if I see it more then $30 then I know somebody messed with the price tag.

Me personally, before I go to the pumps. I check if that card reader has the red tape or I jiggle the card reader to see if may be loose. Because some of the gas stations I have gone to had been known to have skimmers but it wasn’t at the pump I was at.

You can check your statement balance online (which is probably how you pay it anyway), and you can enter your mileage into your phone. I'm sure Koop's probably got a function for that on one of his watches.

Nope. The crook just buys something else. It's an entirely different transaction. They can't go back and change the amount you paid for gas. Even if they did, they couldn't get the money. It would go to the gas seller. All a skimmer does is record data.

We really don’t know. With today’s technology anything can be altered now. I know what a skimmer does. But either way get a gas receipt and check your statement.

Nobody needs these highway billboards that are mounted way out of your line of sight - way up on a hill, and off to the side - that basically tell you that you shouldn't take your eyes off the road to read a text. But by all means, do take your eyes off the road to read the billboard's text. Oh and they're electronic billboards, that cycle through their messages. So you'll want to fixate your eyes on the billboard for a good, long time, so you can read the message when it comes back around again.

I use the receipt for more than just gas. I do look at my statements and verify any charge that does not match a payment. Usually it is because I did not get a receipt and forgot about it.

As for entering that stuff in my phone in the gas station, holding up other people who want to gas up their cars while I enter the stuff in, that would be quite rude.

I try and ignore the billboards. They are almost as dangerous playing with your phone.

It enough when you have an annoying passenger with yea. When they speak up "Oh check that over there." hello I'm driving, I'm not taking my eyes off the road.

The electronic billboards that are in the field of view when you're looking at a stop light are the ones that bother me. I'll be at a light and see the billboard change in the background, and want to take my foot off of the brake. There has to be an increase in people that get into accidents because of that.

We had this wack job on the Mass/NH border who put up a super-bright electronic sign at a 6-way intersection, and displayed these crazy, inflammatory messages. He ended up losing a defamation suit for like $2 million. This is a perfect example of why I'm so happy to have gotten the hell out of there.
