The Space Thread

There is a very solid chance this guy is crazy but if not, he's telling one hell of a story:

I’m thinking more like high tech drones from some rival country instead of ET, ET would be cool.

So aliens seem to exist (maybe it's foreign tech but we don't know) and no one seems to care?

We live in weird times.
Wish I’d thought of that.

This story could also fit in the Amazon thread – or, because so many thousands of schmucks have signed these petitions, the Dumb Dodo thread.

I read that one of the other guys like Branson or whatever wants to beat him into space now.

No fucking way. This guy just wants to sell books. I didn't see it live but in all the video I've seen that shit blew the fuck up.

The capsule was intact when they found it. It is reasonable they could have survived until impact with the ocean if the had sufficient O2. But they may have suffocated on the way down. Still a better way to go than a fiery explosion.

There are billions of dollars to be made in government (and other) contracts, not to mention rich guy bragging rites, for being first. When you have that much money, Viagra doesn’t cut it anymore.

Long before it was a tasteless Kurt Cobain joke, here in New England the joke was: How do you know Christa McAuliffe's eyes were blue? One blew this way and the other blew that way. /rimshot

ok so you all already know im weird so here we go...

ive been watching space shuttle launches and they make me feel good...not columbia (even though that one was on reentry) or challenger cause those are the bummers but the others are really cool.

videos like this:

basically super, future-looking planes attached to giant gas tanks that somehow wind up literally out of this world.

i saw a launch once. they were so big you could see it all the way from boca on a clear night. im positive i posted the pic in one of our photo contest threads but i cant find it.

i gotta watch that Apollo hbo series again.

not shuttle or manned so not as cool but somehow musk can land a returning payload in a giant net on a boat.

crazy coolness.

its like if trapeze was cool.

Did you guys watch Branson a few days ago? Everyone at my place did, it was neat.

What Bezos is doing seems scarier though:

No real astronauts on board and it doesn't land like a plane. It lands like an Apollo mission with parachutes.
