The Random Sports Thread

At the Marlies game on Monday, I was told that if the Marlies advance to the next round (the Caulder Cup) that they will be putting the ice back in Scotiabank Arena for the Marlies to play. This is because CocaCola Coliseum is right beside BMO Field which is stupidly being used for the stupid FIFA World Cup and they won't allow any other events in the area during their stupid tournament. The seats we get at Scotiabank are not as nice as the seats at CocaCola even though they are the same price range.

I am also not looking forward to the next 3 weeks in Toronto. All for a stupid soccer tournament.

I decided to watch the early coverage of Fox Belmont after all just in time for the first race with a horse named "John the Beerman"
Next race Woody Stephens has "Six Speed" "Englishman" (trained by same as Golden Tempo) and Pat Day Mile winner "Crude Velocity".

As for coverage, it is not bad. They have Charissa Tompson, former BTN and current Fox Football and Jonathan Kinchen You Tube Horse Analyst. He even groomed up.

Meant to mention about last month, "Golden Tempo" won the Kentucky Derby the same way as "Secretariat", starting dead last, to first, just 3 seconds slower

My thoughts on the Belmont Stakes

I had, between the Belmont and the Stanley Cup, to get in a much-needed bike ride. Time went fast.
"Englishman" won the Woody Stephens Good opening card race.
"Journalism" finished 3rd in the Met Mile. Looked tired and not the same horse as last year.

Belmont Stakes
Hey "Golden Tempo" Other than "the Puma", "Golden Tempo" took on the best horses during the Kentucky Derby Prep and Championship Point Season
"Renegade" "Commandment" "Chief Wallabee" "Emerging Market" and beat them all again. Must have been all those kisses he got from his trainer the day after the Kentucky Derby

A shakeup this week announced for Triple Crown 3-year-old horse racing. They are trying to glamourize the races after the Belmont Stakes by including them in a new championship series with a 5-million-dollar purse for the standing leaders. In the meantime, the Preakness announced it was being pushed back 3 weeks from the Kentucky Derby instead of 2 weeks. But it will not be part of the new series. Confusing. This would just make the Kentucky Derby another race instead of the 3-year-old champion, I do not know if I would like that.

The inaugural 2027 Thoroughbred Championship Series is expected to include:

  • Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve at Churchill Downs Racetrack on May 1
  • Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets at Belmont Park on June 5
  • Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs Racetrack in July (exact date TBD)
  • Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in late July/early August (exact date TBD)
  • Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in late August (exact date TBD)
  • Championship Race at Churchill Downs Racetrack in September (exact date TBD)
