The Random Post Thread

Every time I sign-on to one of my account sites - pharmacy, insurance, banking, credit card etc. - and it sends a verification code to my phone of up to 8 digits, I'm thinking that it's just some bullshit feel-good thing, rather than providing any real security. Often, it has my cell phone number registered, so that makes at least some sense, but I still don't understand why the verification code has to be 8-digits, or anything more than 3. But it gets weirder; on some accounts, it asks me for the number to send the text to. How is that providing any security?

And what about changing the password every 90 days. What is this preventing? So someone cracks your account password, but then waits a few months to use it? Does any of this really work?

I think MFA works well as long as your cell isn't also hacked, and it doesn't matter if the verification code is two digits or twenty. Asking for a number to send the code to sounds ridonkulous.

That reminds me of a funny story from my days at Glendale College. One day, the big sign in front of the college said "ASB ELECTIONS – BOOKSTORE PATIO." (ASB is the Associated Student Body.) A day later, somebody – not I – had switched two letters so it said "ASB ERECTIONS – BOOKSTOLE PATIO." Several hours elapsed before someone changed it back.

I.....Yes I.... used to change the letters at the hostess station at restaurants from Please Wait To Be Seated, to Please Wait To be Eated.
Once and a while I'd get lucky and find an N to swap out with the D.

Why am I using my energy to try and get Laura back? I have a new person to which I am 100% devoted.

How did it take me this long to find my true love?

Wolf has made it clear he's more into some AZ desert bum than I. It is my greatest heartbreak.

I have to live my life in the meantime while I wait for him to finally come to his senses.

Massachusetts has Patriot's Day, which is the day they run the Boston Marathon in mid-April (and occasionally get blown-up). Schools in Mass are closed, many big businesses are closed, and it's a state holiday. Early in the morning, they re-enact the battle of Lexington and Concord. There's always big crowds that come to watch that.

Pre-merger (our first merger in the late 90's), we had that day off every year. It also coincided with school vacation week. Now, there are a bunch of holidays we don't get off, so that we can have the end of the year off.
Happy Patriot's Day everybody!
