It just occurred to me that Koopman is likely a jewish name. That would make at least 3 in this small group.
not sure about the origins of the name but somewhere along the way it became owned by a dutch reformed protestant family. the koopman men though, going back to my grandfather and including me are all atheists who only went to church if pressured by a woman.
that story about being named kippur for most of my high school career is cause i went to a mostly jewish high school. funny too cause it was a quaker school but the student body was somewhere around 75% jewish. its also kinda neat that we would all have a mandatory quaker religious service once a week. but with the quakers you can pretty much have any belief and still feel at home in the services since all you do it sit quietly for an hour and anyone who feels like getting up and talking for a bit can do so. its more like silent reflection or meditation than a religious affair.
