I'm listening to The Pulse right now and Kim Ashley just made a reference to Christina Aguilera forgetting a verse of The Star Spangled Banner during the Super Bowl earlier tonight. Are they doing this live? I always thought The Pulse was voicetracked...

You can literally voice track a several hour show in just a few minutes.
She could have tracked them from her home and uploaded them to Sirius.
The thing about voice tracking is that it can sound really good, or really bad.
Most of the stuff you hear on Sirius/XM is decent. I've heard stuff on local radio with wrong weather forecasts, incorrect time checks, talk ups not matching the song, 3 or 4 events firing at once, etc.

that sounds more like it. i guess i'm still surprised at the quick production turnaround time for the voice track. I always thought that the programs were done a few days ahead of time.

and ditto on the voice track screw ups. i've heard that happen a few times on Sirius XM. its particularly embarrassing when it happens on Hits1/20on20 on the weekends. since the weekend programming on that station consists of a 4-5 hour loop over 2 days, you get to hear over and over again the same screw up where the DJ is talking over a song while another voice over is going on top of that.

pretty much. think of it as a mp3 playlist. you drag a few songs into the mix, then insert a voice over, drag more songs, and repeat.

that's the main concept behind it. the voicetracking software is more sophisticated and offers features such as what would be the scheduled air time, so that DJs can do the "It's now 5 past the hour" announcements, importing jingles into the mix, etc.

Ahhhh Yesssss The joys of VT'ing... If they are done correct no one will notice, but a screw up will cost ya big time. When I still lived down south one of the Clear Channel owned stations VT'ed 21 hours a day with the exception of of morning drive. It was a Jammin' Oldies station and the jock was talking about how nice it was out side, and how it was a great day for a picnic. The only problem was it was storming like crazy with warnings and all... No one inside the CC building thought to check the station... VT'ing is very easy to do with little effort involved. I am sure with something as big as the Super Bowl they wanted it to sound live even if it was VT'ed... CC
