The Musical Instrument Thread

Does it run from neck to bridge?

It's supposed to be rather unique to full hollow bodies.
Still a lot of boom and all of the tone you would expect, but more control and stability.
It's damned sweet either way.

Got the Strat back today, probably spend my day off this weekend getting familiar with it again and looking around for pickup upgrades for single coil.

Congrats!
Next time, sell blood and semen instead of the guitar.
On second thought, just sell the blood.

Put some fresh strings on it and spend some quality time together this weekend.
I had the day off yesterday and got to play for a good 4 hours. I hadn't had much time to play lately.

I got a new 5 way toggle for the guild. After almost 30 years, it's gotten kind of noisy, and the plastic tip just broke. I'd like to switch that out this weekend. I picked up some pick guard material to make a more permanent mount for he midi pickup. I'm hoping to take care of that while I have it apart too.

Our blues band met for the third time tonight. It was a lot of fun. I'm mostly playing rhythm, trying to find a tone and a part that fits in with and complements whatever our lead guitar player is doing. I did take a couple of solos tonight and even opened up a song called "Tell Me Why." It's the bit played at the very beginning here:

I've been putzing around with the guitar and amp and finally got the knobs and switches set right where it sounds more 'Metal' and I've been boning up on Tommy Iommi's work with Black Sabbath, mainly N.I.B., Paranoid, and Iron Man (the last two I'm pretty close to getting down).

Here's our set list:

Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
Big Boss Man
Nadine
Shake & Finger Pop
Love Light
Tell Me Why
Roll Over Beethoven
Down By the Cove
Rollin' & Tumblin'
Hallelujah, I Love Her So
Flip Flop & Fly
Night Time Is The Right Time
So You Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star
Collard Greens
Ain't My Dog

Ain't My Dog is our lead guitarist's original. I play acoustic on Dock of the Bay. Not sure which ones I'll sing yet, if any.

Soooo.......I might have sort of inadvertently pre-ordered this over the weekend....

I was at the German American Festival all weekend. On Sunday I was volunteering at the Beer Garten selling beers for 6 hours. The guy that owns Reverend Guitars plays for Polka Floyd. So I was talking to him for a couple of minutes, about this one. My local guitar shop has the same model, but in colors that I don't like. So I asked if it made me a dick to ask the guy that owns the shop to get one in the color I like when he already has 2..... Rev tells me not to worry, his kid takes lessons at my local guitar shop, and he's there every week anyway. He can just drop one off for me to try....

So after volunteering for 6 hours, where they just let you grab a beer whenever you need one........I didn't have the wits about me to say I was still thinking it over....

I think I made up my mind.

Thinking is overrated. You know, they say that the job interview process does not yield better employees than random selection. Sometimes you just have to decide first and think about it later.

Word. With the cash I got for shooting the wedding this weekend, the Mrs won't fuss so much about the price.

That's cool. I just don't have any time or desire for outside work any longer. Basically, I work my day job (which I love. I love my job. I haven't "worked" a day in the last three and a half years), I do karate, and I play guitar. That's about all I can keep straight in my head.

I can't keep anything straight in my head any more, so what's the difference.
We've been doing a couple of weddings a year, and setting up at a few art shows. We only sell a few pieces hear and there, but we get leads on some commission work, and it's fun to get the pix out of the house and talk to people about photography. We only do gigs that we're up for.

I don't have kids, or work many evenings or weekends, so this still counts as a hobby for me.

Sounds like it works for you. We have our next karate graduation on Saturday, so I'm trying to get my shit together for that in the evenings this week. You know--memorizing spine-breaking kicks, death chokes--the usual. We do a little show for the parents at a local HS gym, and they applaud our brutality :cautious:. Then we have a major fundraiser dinner on Sunday evening for work, and our application for national reaccreditation is due next Thursday, right before I leave with the fam for an 8-hour drive to Philly for a wedding. I think I should be stressed out...
