I didn't realize this guy just died. Thus the post...

I learned the bass part to "Belong" last night. Easy and fun, like your sister.

Bass....... Guitar for guys that can only handle 4 strings.....

The Strat I'm refinishing is moving forward. I stripped the paint I farked up back in 91, is off, I cleaned up some of the body shape that I had altered that wasn't as good as it could have been (a mod I shouldn't have done in the first place), it's sanded, and I'm about to reset the neck. As long as I've gone this far, I figure that I should finish it the right way. I ordered new guts for it; Seymour Duncan Screamin Deamons, new pots, jack, and toggle. And I picked up fresh paint. I did a dry run assembly to see what needs to be adjusted, and I had forgotten how great the action was on this thing. That must have been why I thought it was worth fixing up 23 years ago.
I found the serial number yesterday too. It turns out that it's a model that was decent back in 84 when it was built (in Japan), people are still getting $400-$500 for them in great condition. Not sure what mine would have fetched, since it had been altered before I got it. It had a G&L replacement neck, they had put in a traditional Fender fulcrum whammy, and it had been repainted. I don't know if the upgrades would have balanced out the devaluation of not being factory. Either way, as long as it still plays this well, and doesn't sound like ass when it's all done, I'll call it a win. I'm not planning on selling it anyway.

I was thinking about that. I suppose since I don't have a before picture, about anything would do. But at this point, I may just wait till it's done, so that people don't start offering suggestions. After all of these years, I don't think I want to start second guessing anything, and slow down any more. If all goes well, I'm going to try to be done before my ESP gets here.....We'll see how that goes....

Just post some pictures, Gertrude. No one is going to suggest anything. And if we do, and you have any common sense, you'll ignore us.

Tonight's song: "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan. He combined chords in interesting ways. C7, F, G7. Simple, just a I-IV-V with sevenths, but fun.

So, Hectic, has that electric arrived on the slow boat from China yet?

I'm learning a few new songs. "Kensington Line" from Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and "American Pie" from Don McLean. That's the next big acoustic song I want to knock off the list.

I'll probably pick up some 'metal' type stuff when I get the strat. I know the basic chords for 'Paranoid' from Sabbath, but it's tricky to play on the acoustic.

Fawker.
Not yet. They said mid to late June. It's not quite mid yet, that's why I've been working on the Frankenstrat. A few more adjustments to go before paint. Hopefully I can get a coat of primer on it tomorrow or Sunday.

I was going to call the shop today to see if they had any word on shipping dates. I'd sure like to have it painted before the new one gets here. After 23 years of sitting in the case in pieces, it deserves to be a guitar again. I'll be too preoccupied with the new one after it gets here, I'm afraid it'll sit too long again if I don't get it done now.

American Pie changes chords like crazy, but if you can keep up, it's a fun song.

Right on. The poor fella deserves a chance to rock before the new kid arrives.

"American Pie" from Don McLean.

Okay, the incessant chord changes in American Pie are merely annoying, but not hard. However, what kills me is finding a range that I can sing in. Don is all over the place. "NOOOOOOO verdict was returned."

I know right? I sing baritone and just doesn't sound right.
