Sundials in most areas will not be correct on Sunday...

The one issue both sides seem to mostly agree on, and we're still stuck changing clocks twice a year.
Notice it's older people who overwhelmingly support permanent DST. Cause if you're retired, you don't care if it's still dark at 8 am.

A coffee maker can't make good coffee without the correct time.
I don't think I've ever set the time on my coffeemaker, and it does just fine. I imagine Hectic has one of those grind & brew things, or he leaves the ground coffee in there overnight, and it starts automatically.

It doesn't do the grind thing, but I got in the habit of setting it to start brewing before I come downstairs in the morning.
The quicker I can get caffeine into my system in the morning, the better.

Mrs. Scotch is the same way, she needs coffee as soon as she gets up. Ideally, I'll get up before her, and make coffee before she gets up. The sound of the grinder lets her know it's on its way.

Have you considered needles?
Actually, yes.

The Mrs. isn't about to get up early to make my coffee. If you want to swing by in the morning, I'll leave you a key. You can have a cup for yourself too.

Oh, I hope so! The United States imposed Daylight Saving Time in 1918, repealed it in 1919 and reinstated it in 1942. The idea was that Americans would use less electricity. Over the years, various studies have shown energy consumption declined by 0.5% or 1% and other studies have shown energy consumption actually increased.

I think you qualify as one of the people who live close enough to the equator that you should have no say. That our senate allows a guy who lives on the udder hanging off the southern end of the US to sponsor the bill, is a testament to our collective stupidity.

C'mon it's the will of the people, possibly the only thing the majority can agree on right about now. Let's pass this bill.

Wasn't it under W that we made DST last longer? Probably the best thing he did. If this passes it will (at least so far) be the best thing Biden did.

However pretty much all my Casio Squares have a little DST icon that pops up during this time of year and it can't be turned off so that would be a bummer at first. Bit I think over time it will be a cool and retro minor feature on what's already a retro styled watch.

Yes, I think it was good to expand it. But even he wasn't dumb enough to eliminate standard (real) time.

Do I need to point out that, by virtue of your subtropical address, you are ineligible to offer an opinion?

Most people watch The Bachelor and drink Budweiser. Doesn't mean they don't suck.

If I had to drink a Bud Light to make this madness end, I would.
If I had to watch The Bachelor, I’d stop complaining about having to change my clocks twice a year.

OK, so I thought this would be more of a definitive chart, but aside from one's north/south location, these times are affected by where you're located east/west within your time zone. Since I went through the trouble of making it, here it is

1647446093108.webp

Jan 1st is around the latest sunrise, but the earliest sunset comes earlier, around Dec 5th - 10th. The dotted line denotes the cutoff for places with short days; those that benefit the most from changing the clocks twice a year. Boulder is really on the fence in that regard.

But here's the point: for the places that have sunrise near (or after) 8:00 am in standard time, that would move to 9:00 am! What kind of industrialized society waits until 9 o'clock for the sun to rise? And for some of these places, such as the ones in Ohio and Michigan, your earliest sunset is after 5 pm. So what are you bitching about? Pretending it's always an hour later than it really is, would just be silly.

Edit: I replaced the table text with an image.
