Sundials in most areas will not be correct on Sunday...

Again, false dilemma. Sundials measured time be casting a shadow that shows the rotation of the Earth.

Sundials used the rotation of the earth to measure the time. They did not measure the rotation.

How can a sundial show the rotation of the Earth without measuring it? Are you using an obscure definition of the word "measure"?

Let's take the first definition for the verb measure that comes up on a Google search:

ascertain the size, amount, or degree of (something) by using an instrument or device marked in standard units or by comparing it with an object of known size.

By that definition, a sundial measures the rotation of the earth. It ascertains the degree of rotation and is an instrument marked in standard units.

You've seen a sundial before, right?

It is measuring the effect not the cause. Sundials pre-date the understanding that the earth is round and/or rotates.

Lots of devices measure the effects. A Geiger counter measures effects. An MRI measures effects. I'm having a hard time thinking of an instrument that measures the cause and not the effect.

We don't know when the first person understood that the earth rotates around its own axis, but it doesn't matter. No matter what model we may have constructed from the data, the sundial was measuring the rotation of the earth. Our understanding doesn't change that.

Sundials were also a measure of time not rotational position.
No. Meme is absolutely right on this one. A sundial is just a piece of material that sticks up into the air. It doesn't know the concept of time. It does only one thing - cast a shadow on the dial. The movement of the shadow is 100% caused by rotation of the earth. We humans use this property to divide the movement into markers, which indirectly indicates the relative time.
I have bad news. The sun wakes you up at 4am, no matter what your clock says. Changing the time on the clock has no impact on the rotation of the Earth.
But changing the time on the clock does change my work schedule, which is all that matters, because my entire day is based on that time schedule.

But you can change your work schedule without changing the time on the clock. Which is what I advocate.

Not all jobs are flexible. Not to mention if you have kids to drop off. Either everybody changes their schedules or you change you clocks once. You tell me which is easier.

If you don’t want to change you can always not change your clocks and adjust your schedule.

Yes, everybody changes their schedules. Leave the clocks alone. My clocks aren't the issue. The clocks in computers are. We waste millions of dollars coding around standard/daylight time issues.

You can untick the dst box in most computers.

It would cost more to change the way dst works than to leave it alone. Most of that money is already spent.

You can't untick the DST box in people, though, so the computers have to show DST.

New money is constantly being spent to support DST. Get rid of it and never spend a dime on it again. Sunk cost fallacy.

Also, I'd prefer if every clock displayed GMT. Get rid of timezones, too.

Instead of 5:00 somewhere, it would be 5:00 everywhere. That would take some getting used to...
We could all celebrate new year at the same time. 6pm here in Houston, so my wife could stay up for it without getting mean.

Can I make all the TV shows move too? And the peak traffic times? And everyone else's schedule? And live sports? And scheduled concerts?
