"Somewhere", the first track from the upcoming posthumous Jimi Hendrix album "People, Hell And Angels", has been made available for streaming. Listen here: First Song From New Hendrix Album Released | News @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

The song features Hendrix performing alongside longtime collaborator Mitch Mitchell with bass from Stephen Stills. It had been recorded for the planned follow-up to "Electric Ladyland", Hendrix's final studio album, which was released in 1968.

The track itself instantly invites comparisons to classic Hendrix material, with the guitarist's iconic wah drenched Strat sound kicking it at the 20 second mark. The song juxtaposes the rhythmic stops of a "Crosstown Traffic" with the more melodic, chilled vibes of "Little Wing", and at times, Hendrix's vocal delivery recalls moments from "The Wind Cries Mary".

The record is the fourth album of posthumous Hendrix material to be released under Experience Hendrix's deal with Legacy Recordings.

"Somewhere" had previously been released on the posthumous Hendrix compilation "Crash Landing" in 1975. However, that version, produced by Alan Douglas, had featured overdubbed guitar, bass, drums and percussion from several session musicians, none of whom had ever met Hendrix. The track was also incorrectly titled as "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on that release.

Excited as they were to discover that a brand new David Bowie album is on the way, a fair number of his fans raised an eyebrow when they saw the cover for the upcoming ‘The Next Day,’ due March 12. But if you’re one of the people wondering why he decided to slap a white box on top of his classic ‘Heroes’ cover for the new LP, don’t worry — designer Jonathan Barnbrook is here to explain.

In a lengthy post at his personal site, Barnbrook revealed the rationale behind the artwork, which has a lot to do with the weight of expectation that an artist of Bowie’s vintage and stature is forced to deal with whenever the urge to release new music strikes. “No matter how much we try, we cannot break free from the past,†explained Barnbrook.

“It always looms large and people will judge you always in relation to your history, no matter how much you try to escape it. The obscuring of an image from the past is also about the wider human condition; we move on relentlessly in our lives to the next day, leaving the past because we have no choice but to.â€

And as for why he chose to deface ‘Heroes’ for the new record? “If you are going to subvert an album by David Bowie there are many to choose from but this is one of his most revered,†pointed out Barnbrook. “It had to be an image that would really jar if it were subverted in some way, and we thought ‘Heroes’ worked best on all counts.†Also of interest to fans: According to Barnbrook, “The new album is very contemplative and the ‘Heroes’ cover matched this mood.†He pointed out that new single ‘Where Are We Now?‘ “is a comparison between Berlin when the wall fell and Berlin today,†and pointed out how using ‘Heroes’ — a chapter in Bowie’s hit ‘Berlin Trilogy†— would force “people to think about the time when the original album was produced and now.â€

I do get new music on The Spectrum. I don't really see the need to pollute the channels I listen for older familiar stuff with new stuff. When I want old stuff, I want old familiar stuff, period.

I guess I can live without the old stuff or channel change for 1 week a year but I don't have to like it.

Just heard a great cover version of AC/DC's T.N.T. from the upcoming Anthrax CD

Anthems, Anthrax’s long-awaited, eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of Anthrax’s favorite bands from the 1970s, will be released in North America on March 19 (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22 in Europe (Nuclear Blast). Anthems’s track listing features Rush’s “Anthem,†Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak,†“TNT†by AC/DC, Boston’s “Smokin’,†“Big Eyes†by Cheap Trick, Journey’s “Keep on Runnin,†as well as the album version and a special remix of Anthrax’s “Crawl†from the band’s critically-acclaimed 2011 album Worship Music.

Said the band’s vocalist Joey Belladonna, “These are all bands I grew up with and have listened to forever. It’s just great music. I had fun singing these songs and I was happy recording together with Anthrax, doing classic rock songs. Fun stuff!â€

On Boston’s “Smokin’,†Anthrax brought in a special guest to play keyboards – Fred Mandel, who has played with Alice Cooper, Queen, Elton John, Cheap Trick, Supertramp and on Pink Floyd’s The Wall. About the track, drummer Charlie Benante said, “If ever there were a perfect first album, it’s Boston’s first album. The harmony leads they did would later be heard by Iron Maiden, which of course would lead to thrash metal.â€

The EP will be available on CD as well as digitally via iTunes and other online retailers. In addition to Anthems’ cover art (attached), Benante and artist Stephen Thompson have subtly redesigned each track’s original album cover art to “Anthrax†it. The Anthems EP will first be housed in one of the “re-imagined†digipak covers, and then inserted inside the main CD cover sleeve. The main cover sleeve has been designed in such a way so fans will be able to see which one of the six “re-imagined†covers is inside.

Anthems was produced by Anthrax, Jay Ruston and Rob Caggiano, and recorded for the most part throughout 2012 literally all over the world: at Benante’s home studio, in Ruston’s New York studio, on the band’s tour bus while on last summer’s Mayhem Tour, in hotel rooms, and backstage at their Berlin show last December.

The Grammy-nominated Anthrax – Belladonna, Benate/drums, Scott Ian/guitar and Frank Bello/bass – will hit the road in support Anthems on February 16 with dates in India and Australia, and then return to North America to headline the Metal Alliance Tour that kicks off March 22. For all of these dates, Anthrax will be joined by Shadows Fall guiarist Jon Donais.

TNT by AC/DC wasn't too shabby either- really love that solo track from Cinderella's lead singer on Hair Nation too! Expect Eddie to fire up a bunch of new songs in about 5 minutes on Trunk Nation :buttrock:
