Dafuq is that???

It looks like a gas station logo.
What a stupid time to try to re-brand.

Except for the fact they're trying to become more of a streaming service (think Tidal) than ever before. All that talk about "Listen in your car" is probably going to be turned way back.

It looks like a gas station logo.

Now that you mention it, SiriusXM's new logo does look like a gas station logo. And I remember the jingle: "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star – the big bright Texaco star." The question before us today, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, is this: Can we trust SiriusXM?

It’s seriously stupid looking. The star gets lost in the visual and all you see is letters that don’t even have a unique font. It‘s got no recognizable contour to make it memorable. At least with the old logo you knew who it was at a glance. (((STUPID))) It didn’t matter if you could read the word or not, it had brand recognition.

Even that is recognizable at a glance.

The whole "now you can listen outside the car" line infuriates me every time I hear it. First of all, they've been selling portables since the service started. between the boomboxes and the handhelds and people using the portable units in their homes, we were all listening outside the car.

But what really burns me is that I've been streaming in the car since 2011 (possibly as early as 2008, but I can't recall my setup in that car). I bought a car in 2011 that didn't have satellite, and I streamed from my phone and listened through Bluetooth for 10 years. And I did the same with my next (and current) car. So that leads me to this:
Bullshit statement #1: "Now with streaming, you can listen outside the car". Both streaming and listening outside the car have been around for at least a dozen years.
Bullshit statement #2: "Streaming is for listening outside the car". No, streaming is how I listen in the car.

For the most part, streaming in the car is superior to using satellite in the car:
- The audio quality of the built-in satrad in my current 2008 car sucks. It's better in the wife's 2019 car, but the streaming audio sounds awesome. And I'm a long-time audio guy, both in the car and at home.
- Occasionally, if I get in my car and try to start streaming where there's no cell signal, I can't get it to go. But if there's any cell signal when I launch it, the buffering covers most dead spots, and I get uninterrupted music. But the satrad in the wife's car has frequent short dropouts.
- The stream will always go to the beginning of a song, and pause for up to 5 hours if you get out of the car (especially good for Howard interviews). With the satrad, you get what you get.
- With streaming, you can see what's playing on all your favorites at once. I can't get that with the satellite.

I also stream at home; it's our main source of music.

I think they call it "TuneStart" where it starts at the beginning of the song. My Onyx Plus had that.

And yeah, I've been listening out of the car since 2005 when I bought my first Sportster Replay.

It would be fantastic if they'd figure out how to consistently sync the listening progress of on-demand content across multiple devices. If I'm listening to a show on my iPhone and then try to pick up where I left off in a web browser or on the Apple TV, it remembers my position sometimes, and sometimes not. This shouldn't be too hard to get right in this day and age.

The SXM software developers don't appear to be too savvy. While the stream can pickup where it left off (even after several hours), it still limits me to like 2 skips, even though it has like 5 hours of music buffered somewhere.

I think the skips are an RIAA limitation. The "Xtra" channels (such as Lithium Stripped) have the same technology built in.

Back in the days of "MySXM" with the three customizable dials, you could adjust the dials, then back to their original setting and finally press "ok" and get your skips back. That loophole was figured out and I think you then had to submit the new preferences.

Yeah, some of the portables have it, but I've never seen it in a factory in-dash radio.
The after market sat rad capable receiver i put in my old G5 had that capability. It would buffer the top 5 presets and if you switched to the channel it would start from the first of the song. It was a nice idea but I only ever used it when I went into the parking garage. I would usually have enough buffered to cover the time it took for me to park while without sat signal.

All in all, I like the new channel menu and changes especially with the Coffeehouse moving to Ch.17. My Deep Tracks preset in my car says "Channel Unauthorized" so I guess it was moved to the 300's

Mine says the same thing. I now remember what that preset was (I had forgotten). My radio did the move for me so it didn't show original channel number.

Deep Tracks was originally on XM channel 16. In 2004, The Blend took over channel 16 and Deep Tracks moved to channel 27. Sirius and XM merged in 2008. Deep Tracks is now on SiriusXM channel 308.

This seems like a decent place to ask this, & excuse me for being a dummy for not knowing. Those of you with newer car radios ( all I have is the one that came stock in my 2012 Nissan Versa ) - how far does the dial go? I assume you don't get everything that you can via plugging your phone in & using the app in the car, but it seems like newer radios DO get more channels than I do.

The SiriusXM sub-reddit is pretty up in arms about Deep Tracks moving to streaming only.

Seems to me streaming only is the better deal. $10.99 for everything. Wonder if they've improved the app any.

Mister Mono – or is it Mister Stereo? – I have an Onyx "dock and play" radio. It goes up to channel 234. I have two docks: one in the bedroom and one in the car. If I go on a long trip, I move the radio from the dock in the bedroom to the dock in the car. When I had the car dock installed at Best Buy, the technician set the Onyx to play on 97.9 FM. That is odd because usually they choose a frequency which doesn't belong to a nearby radio station – and 97.9 is "La Raza" KLAX. That's okay, though. I never listen to KLAX.

I had the Edge radio that could pick up 300 channels but I transferred the subscription to my wife's car. I use the online at home now and She usually drives when we go someplace together. She can now get channels in the 300 series includling Deep Tracks.

We have a similar setup (but without the upgraded radio), where we have 1 subscription. She uses the satrad in her car, and I use the streaming at home and in my car with my phone. We usually use her car when we go out; and she mostly drives, because she knows how to get everywhere.
