Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

Lindsey Buckingham

Genre: singer-songwriter, pop rock, AC

Discovered: knew him from The Mac

Other: Love his guitar style. His recent collab with Christine McVie has at least two great songs. I've been meaning to check out the rest.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Trouble
2. Go Insane
3. Countdown
4. Holiday Road
5. Soul Drifter

Yeah that's a fantastic performance. I've seen it before, but something's telling me it was from this forum I learned of it...? I think I mentioned at the time that I also love his performance of "Never Going Back Again" on the KCRW compilation CD Rare On Air (Live Performances Vol. One).

I've never been able to get the finger picking thing down really well.
Guys like Lindsey and Knopfler are able to go crazy with it AND sing at the same time.

Linkin Park

Genre: electronic rock, nu metal

Discovered: FM "One Step Closer"

Other: Loved most of their first album. Absolutely nothing since. Especially that last album they did. Oh, and dead sick of #3 below. Like "Don't Stop Believing" I can't get away from it. For the last several years, a week does not go by where I don't hear both of those songs at least once. Make it stop I beg you.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Points Of Authority
2. Pushing Me Away
3. In The End
4. By Myself
5. One Step Closer

It seems like there are some guitarists who can do things that others can't normally do. Certainly those guys, Townshend, of course EVH. Maybe even Paul Simon, or the guy from Royal Blood. We might need a thread for this.

Lita Ford

Genre: hard rock

Discovered: MTV "Gotta Let Go"

Other: I really liked "Close My Eyes" a lot, but over time the b-side grew on me even more. #4 below is from a collection of recordings she made with a bunch of guest musicians (Cheap Trick, Jane's Addiction, Kiss...) right after her big Lita album (the one with #1, #2 and #3 below on it) that she found recently and finally released.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Under The Gun
2. Close My Eyes Forever (with Ozzy)
3. Kiss Me Deadly
4. Rotten To The Core (with Gene Simmons & Bruce Kulik)
5. Gotta Let Go

Little T & One Track Mike

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: CMJ "Fome Is Dape"

Other: Silly yet clever. Kinda like a mix of Eminem, De La Soul and Biz Markie. They only had one album. Pretty obscure (despite being signed to Atlantic). The #1 song below wasn't on YouTube until someone randomly upped it six days ago. #2 below was the 'big' single (shown on MTV).

HIGH FIVE:

1. Immune
2. Shaniqua
3. Fome Is Dape
4. Kick In The Ass
5. Guidance Counselor (with Slick Rick)

Live

Genre: rock

Discovered: don't remember but it was "Selling The Drama"

Other: I mostly like their album Throwing Copper (all 5 below are from it). A lot of people liked their next one with "Lakini's Juice", "Turn My Head" and "Freaks" but it did nothing for me.

HIGH FIVE:

1. White, Discussion
2. Selling The Drama
3. Stage
4. All Over You
5. The Dam At Otter Creek

The problem is mainstream radio (Sirius included!) thinks 'Lightning Crashes' is the only song they ever made.

Living Colour

Genre: rock, hard rock

Discovered: MTV "Cult Of Personality"

Other: Like many bands (I'm realizing) I'm only into one of their albums, and barely anything else. #3 below is from their sophomore release, everything else from their debut.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Cult of Personality
2. Open Letter (to a Landlord)
3. Elvis Is Dead
4. I Want to Know
5. Glamour Boys

Liz Phair

Genre: indie rock, garage pop

Discovered: a friend, I think it was "Flower"

Other: Like @scotchandcigar already covered so well, Exile In Guyville is one of those albums that is loaded with 'untalented genius'. It's an exercise in "I may not be a great guitar player, singer or songwriter, but my message and emotion are so strong and my creativity is so limitless, you're gonna love it anyway". I was fortunate enough to have someone introduce me before "Supernova" put her on the map. But like so many other artists I've covered in this thread, she's a one-album wonder so far, with some other great songs kinda here and there. If Exile isn't 'indie/underground' enough for someone, listen to the Girly Sound Tapes, which are basically the pool of demos Exile came from. The song "White Babies" still haunts my brain.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Supernova
2. The Divorce Song
3. Fuck And Run
4. Explain It to Me
5. Canary

The way his lyrics connect with each other goes so deep, especially in his latest stuff, that most people are missing more than half of the references he makes.
Just found another one of these. I've heard his new song "Discombobulated" a couple dozen times and I just figured out what he's referencing in these lines.

I'm at my best when I'm at my worst
And for that I'm blessed, so every time I rap I curse

Now it seems obvious, but when he's going 200 MPH and every line has at least one reference, it's easy to miss a bunch and need a couple dozen listens to catch them.

Everyone else get what he's referencing there?
