Rant - Anybody Else Had it with the Beth Plugs?

They loved Alison because Howard used to dis his marriage and treated her like shit. Now Howard is happy and secure, so Beth is hated. I remember thinking the same way when I saw Farrah Fawcett and Lee Majors together. I never watched the Six Million Dollar Man again. :Smiley_wink:

Or...it has nothing to do with said pseudo-psycho babble, and rather everything to do with the fact that Beth is talentless, annoying to listen to, a drag on the show in numerous ways, and Howard's need to endlessly plug her is getting ponderous?

Howard likes to plug Beth . . . Dominic has the sheets to prove it.

So, looking at this forum, several people don't like Robin, don't like Artie, don't like the things that Howard talks about, don't like the bits and phony phonecalls that RichardandSal produce, don't like most of the frequent callers, don't like the specialty shows or Bubba or Ferrall but we can't question WHY they still listen?

The only thing left is Fred's sound effects and IMO, that's worth the subscription price itself...

Beth at a recent North Shore Animal League event, holding a homeless cat.

I don't like the fact that Alison was cut out of MTT, but it has nothing to do with Beth. It has to do with the fact that the older shows have been altered. I would prefer to hear the shows uncensored, as promised. Well, that ain't going to happen because of some agreement between Alison and her lawyer and Howard and his lawyers. But again, it has nothing to do with Beth.

Now, as far as Beth is concerned. I don't think she adds to the show when she's on and I don't care to hear Howard's "kissy talk" with her, but the latter has nothing to do with Beth, I don't like hearing that talk from anyone.

If Beth were to call up and dispute something that Howard said(like Alison used to do) or come into the studio and provide content(not plugging her upcoming television appearances)along the line of a game show with other people in the studio, then that's fine.

Her appearances are kept to a minimum, so it doesn't really bother me all that much. If Howard and Beth do get divorced it won't be that difficult to edit her life out of the 2001-2010 shows.

No idea why she is galloping around the hallways of Sirius. Thought the original idea of a hallway show was to mic Ronnie so we could hear him yelling at everyone. I like this idea if it is real-time audio of what's actually happening out there - but scripted by Sal??

They should mic the bathrooms for sound then try to identify who is shitting.

Because they are hard-core Howard fans who would listen to Howard read live commercials if that's all they could get (myself included). (They want a better show, not no show). Even when Howard was telling fans who criticized the show to stop listening he immediately declared that there was no way they (losers implied) would go away.... Ralph did the same thing... he said there were no Howard fans on the fan forums and immediately said they (losers implied) would listen no matter what because there was nothing else on radio to listen to.....

I could care less. You've never tried to help out a family member or loved one?
They've given Scott the Engineer some shit for helping out his son's band but no one calls Howard out on his constant plugging of shit Beth is doing.

No, they hate the commercials too... :p

It's just weird to me since they make the show out to be so sub-standard, but there is no show that meets some of these people's "standards". Being the best thing available just isn't good enough. And its not constructive criticism, just a downward spiral of negativity. And when the show is good, they might begrudgingly admit it, but with a backside slam at how its a rarity... It's a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of situation, IMO. If you come into it thinking its going to be shitty, your head will help you to reach that conclusion.

It's not The Scott Salem Show. Partners at a law firm can do stuff that secretaries can't. The show is about Howard and his life/head. It's worth 5 minutes out of 20 hours to keep that part flowing freely to the mic.

A. I hate commercials.
B. I would listen to Howard read live commercials if that is all I could get.
C. Post after post after post I have lauded the the best parts of the show - Howard, Artie and Robin riffing on anything...Howard interviews... song parody contests....and...long ago... Howard taking the gang on field trips to award shows with his megaphone....
D. Post after post after post I have stated my preference for the Sirius show over the terrestrial show.
E. I am not alone in sometimes criticizing the show while being a fervant fan.

So... do not rewrite history... Do not invent downward spirals ...
I will say this about the impetus to criticize... I want the show to continue for as long as possible. Hence I will attack everything that dilutes Howard and that I think jeopardizes the future of the show (Sal, Beth, the 100th phony phone call to a Chinese restaurant, cook book author interviews, Infantile, extreme gross-outs [smelling Richard's unwiped ass] that chase away needed listeners [milions of wives] etc.) I want the show to be as good as it can be...
Oh you say that Howard is not listening... I know. That's OK... I like sharing my thoughts with other hard core fans... That's what a forum is for.

I was speaking generically, not saying that's your views.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but imagine if Howard went onto a forum and instead of people complaining about every minute of the show that they didn't like, a la SFN, people were laughing about the stuff they DID like. IMO, it would be a better way of inspiring a better show and it was a much funner environment when that was the case on SBS. I have no illusions of Howard reading our bullshit, it's just that negativity breeds negativity and I'd rather see us cultivate something positive since I listen to the show for laughs, not to find flaws... I assume you do too.

I can't say I don't want Sal or Beth to ever come on. There have been times when they hit homeruns. Some people would say that they don't want to hear more whoores or boy band members, then we get a Dumb as a Rock or Rich Cronin. It's part of the live aspect. Sometimes the littlest thing can turn into the funniest segment of the week.

the three minutes of beth mentions totally ruined this week's shows.

Yeah, Howard Stern is the epitome of positivity.

The show is supposedly about real, honest talk and not holding anything back. And yet you want the Stern forums to be pat on the back sessions.

I like when people talk about what they love and hate about the show with no holds barred fervor. And if they hate everything, I want to hear it. I don't take it personally.

But doesn't Mutt kick people out if they are too critical? Is it really so bad there? Doesn't Howard realize that almost all the persons who bother to post are real fans? Doesn't he know that his super critical take on everything inspires his fans to do the same thing? I would be curious to know what percentage of the posts are negative. Howard has become very thin skinned lately He can take no criticism and he does not seem to be allowing the Howard Stern News to do any stories about him. I believe Howard crossed the line when he told the guy complaining about the Bubba terrestrial re-broadcasts or simulcasts to drop his subscription. Tell that to a guy who says the Howard Stern show sucks ...not to a fan. And then on the WUS he tells another true-blue fan to get the hell out when he complains about the disrespect to the first fan (while syncophant Gary calculates how many years it would take the fan [a mailman] to make what Howard makes in a year). Howard should be able to discuss the complaints as well as the compliments. Which reminds, how was the "original programming" - the Sal and Beth skit - last night on Howard TV?

Personally, I don't want Howard to listen to anyone when it comes to his show; not the ball washers, not the complainers, not me and definitely not the people who post on forums. Frankly, we all pretty much suck when it comes to programming radio. For every "expert" we have here, I can show you a bit or a guest that was incessantly bitched about, which Howard then proceeded to knock out of the park.

So I'm glad that Howard told those tools who do the radio equivalent of calling up Ted Williams to tell him how to hit a baseball to fuck off and cancel. It's what "old" Howard would have done, and isn't "old" Howard what everyone is clamoring for?

Let's face it dudes, we may know good radio, but we only know it after we hear it. Otherwise, we'd be doing Gary's job.
