Poor Rod. I think he wanted to chock out Barff on that stage. I also am concerned about the generation z kids say they won't vote, if those numbers are anywhere near true. After the boomer group dies off it's going to be almost impossible for the GOP to stay on top. I work with 7-14 kids and every last one of them hates the president. Of course they don't know anything about politics yet.

Yes, that's what many assume. However, that doesn't account for the "suburbanization" of America. Look at (for example) L.A. vs Orange county. Or any suburb of an industrial-era American city. The suburbs get bigger and wealthier. And the people who move there care less about urban issues.

But at the same time, the groups that we call "minorities" are moving toward a higher percentage of the total population. So these two effects make for an interesting balance.

However, there's yet another factor. Local elections overwhelmingly favor conservative candidates (the ones who say they'll "keep your taxes low"), which gives them control of redistricting (aka gerrymandering), which increases their power in national representation. It's all these factors that'll likely keep things going back-and-forth for quite a while.

Being fiscally conservative, but socially liberal, doesn't surprise me.

Pre 1988 conservatives believe in higher taxes for the rich. I think that's a correction they're willing to make.

I think that's fair. It's like "Do whatever you want, as long as I'm not paying for it".

Let me ask, as kindly as possible: does this include any of the following?
-wars in Iraq and Afghanistan;
-war on drugs;
-tax breaks for corporations (placing burden on middle class);
-tax breaks to the rich (placing burden on middle class);
-tax breaks to churches;
-interest on debt;
-defense spending;
-secret service for NYC, Bedminster NJ, Mar-a-Lago;
-secret service for family members;
-173 golf outings ($100M);
-20 trips to Mar-a-lago;
-multiple trips to N Korea.

I ask with a smile :)

Can we liken the number of Democratic Presidential candidates to a game of blackjack? We just hit 21.

Wake me up when they get to the final four. I'm too lazy to fill out my brackets this early in the season.

Smile all you want, but be careful....

An April 25-28 CNN/SSRS poll of voters' preferences in head-to-head matchups between Trump and each of the top six Democratic Presidential candidates was released today: Sanders beats Trump 50% to 44%, Biden beats Trump 51% to 45%, Buttigieg beats Trump 47% to 44%, Harris beats Trump 49% to 45% and O'Rourke beats Trump 52% to 42%, Trump beats Warren 48% to 47%. In all six matchups, Trump fails to get a majority.

Should we have a thread devoted to the 2020 Presidential race? Or would such a thread be an invitation for everyone to start – to use the title of a 1947 hit song – feudin' and fightin'?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say NFW. We can't take sides on this thread, so a thread dedicated to taking sides is out.

And honestly, I believe in the 30 day limit on campaigning that other countries have. I think all the crap going on now is pointless and meaningless.
