When someone breaks the law and has their kids with them the kids go into the government system. That's how it's always been. If you decide to take your kid along to break the law you gotta live with the consequences. What, we are supposed to build family jails now? I believe the problem is with how long it takes to send an illegal back. They tend to sit in some sort of jail for months before they see a judge and then finally get the boot. Immigration should have the authority to bounce them right back ASAP and then there would be no need to separate.
As a descendant of holocaust victims and survivors
If you're going to play that card, so am I. Not the Holocaust but you know my Dad was in a Japanese concentration camp for 4 years during the war. They didn't have the gas chambers, so no mass murders and that's a huge difference, but the rest of it was about the same. They certainly had systematic starvation. He came out weighing 80 pounds at 18 years old and 6 feet tall. He says to this day if Truman didn't drop the bomb he'd have died.
Now yes, I agree that it is concerning for people who are legally seeking asylum. But there are so many differences between what you see in that picture and the Holocaust it is unfair to compare the two.
