Donna Brazile was not an anchor. She was a talking head contributing to political opinion segments. CNN fired her when they found out what she'd done.

ok she wasn't an anchor. but she was an important enough talking head to have early access to the debate questions. that's more than your average contributor. and great, they fired her. damage was already done and it proves they are all too happy to hire morally bankrupt people in the first place.

they have done multiple shows about various decades like "the 80s", "the 90s" and so on that are barely more informative than the same shit vh1 does all the time. they run documentary movies somewhat often. they must have hired the same vfx crew that worked on star wars I-III with all the crazy green screen they use. and just like the other big 2 cable news networks, their host's opinion based programming is not really news. they may discuss current events in politics but the goal is more to entertain people enough to keep them watching rather than inform the public.

cnn.com is much more informative than almost anything on cnn tv.
The programming you mention constitutes a small percentage of the broadcast day. The much larger percentage is either reading news headlines, showing news headline segments, having bipartisan panel discussions, and airing commercials.

Now, is it often inflammatory, sensationalist, shallow, redundant, and absent of the broader news picture? Absolutely. Is much of the news delivered in a way, that uses entertainment techniques to try grabbing your attention? Certainly. But that doesn't constitute calling it "entertainment". If they provided only opinion, if they were acting, if they were telling fictional stories, then that would be entertainment.

All these cable networks mainly just deliver news, badly.

Ironic that you would mention morally bankrupt people. But anyway, your statement makes no sense: if they hire a seasoned, knowledgeable person with a good reputation, and that person does something to get them fired, why is that the fault of the network?

is that some sort of not so subtle dig at me? if so, not cool man.

so are you saying that a company can not be held responsible for the actions of it's employees? it's the same as all the stories about trump's lack of vetting in his cabinet picks. if she was so willing to violate journalistic ethics in perhaps the most egregious way possible it's a safe bet she has been doing shady things for awhile that could have been discovered with proper vetting.

In the world in which we find ourselves, I can no longer argue about such minutiae; it's just too hypocritical. So I'm throwing my hands up here. You win. Next......

This makes me wish Robin Williams was still alive and Letterman would still on the air. Would love to hear what those two would do with the Trump administration.

I wish Hunter S. Thompson was alive to write about Trump, but I know it would just give him an aneurism.

I also wish Malcolm X was alive to write about Obama and police brutality.

I think Letterman hit the fed-up point, where he felt the reality was beyond making trivial jokes. Jon Stewart hit that point too.

If you think about it, much of comedy consists of hyperbole, exaggerating reality. But when reality is beyond imagination, there's nowhere to go with it.

That's one hot first family there

We've got to be careful gentlemen.

That's funny as hell no matter who became president, but we need to resist the commentary.
It's going to be a little while before things calm down, and we don't want to start getting into brawls at this point.
