ooooo....scotch, you're treading very un-liberal grounds there. should the states control the tests? that won't work out too well. and no one wants to give the federal government that kind of power. i seem to remember a time when voting tests were widely implemented and i don't think it worked out too well.

I know, but I'm with George Carlin and Bill Maher on this: lots of people are stupid, and people in masses are both stupid and dangerous. High-Pitch Eric gets to vote; so does an 88 year old shut-in who spends his days on the internet trading Muslim conspiracy memes. I'd say a good 1-out-of-3 are horribly misinformed.

But let's make something clear: I'm not ever running for any office, I'm never going to petition to restrict voting rights, I'm just voicing my opinion. I know that all people have voting rights, I just wish so many people weren't so ignorant.
 
The problem with "uninformed voters" is that one could easily assume that one that does not share your viewpoint must be not doing so because they are uninformed. Every idiot of every political stripe gets to vote. In theory their idiots will cancel out your idiots in the end.

That's an assumption some make, but I try to separate the two. Many people have a complete awareness of facts vs. lies, and fully understand the implications of any particular political position; yet they may still hold different values and have a different outlook than me. It's the rest who are ignoramuses.

Half of the people are below the median. The mean (what most understand as average) may be higher or lower. It's like living in a town where every house is between $250K and $350K, except for a row of houses along the river going for $5 million each.

I'm pretty sure people aren't like that. The mean and median are the same.
