Good luck with it Koop.

Thanks man. After my 2 aunts and uncle, she is the 4th living thing I care about most in the world.

Well, Wolf of course is above all of them but that's a discussion for a different time.

So there is a thing called a "meagcolon" with cats, I heard that and thought it was a joke, like Athena has a super colon. But no, it means they have pooping problems. So they sedated my little girl then flushed her system and literally pulled impacted poop out of her cat butt. She's good now though. And her front leg is shaved where they put in the IV...it's cute.

Meanwhile this cost me like $550. So I did all those OT hours basically just to pay for my cat to poop.

Athena is making herself at home after 3 days. I mean she spent from August 2019 until 3 days ago in 1 spare bedroom. Now she has (in her view) basically a palatial mansion. I'm glad she has room to run around and explore. She's an old lady, she should have some room in her retirement years.

Two things

1. If she were up there when I went to the kitchen for some milk at 3am, I'd piss myself.

2. Our cat (RIP) lived with us in our apartment for a couple years. Then we moved into our house. He was on the stairs (thinking it's just another counter or shelf, because 'what are stairs?'). I'll never forget the look on his face when I walked up the stairs past him. Blew his effing mind.

Interesting thing is happening with Athena getting used to the new place. After a few days of exploring she's not running around as much as I thought. I mean she finally has room to run but doesn't do it much. Maybe it's cause she's 12 years old.

When I'm here I've observed her laying on her back a lot. Much more than she did at the old place. I think that means she feels more comfortable/safe here.

Another cool thing is that she always winds up in whatever room I'm in. Right now she's sleeping on the couch next to me. When I go to bed eventually she will follow me and wind up somewhere on the bed with me.

When I'm not home she's found a nice dark space in my closet hamper where she sleeps.

Idk but I like it. It seems like she's adjusting well and way happier with her old lady cat life at this place.

Athena right now. I'm like 2 feet to the left of her on the couch. I love her little pink belly so much. I tell her all the time it's the best part of the cat. But she doesn't listen to me and gets annoyed when I pet it.

When we built this house, I thought the cats would love it. There's the loft overlooking the downstairs, and all sorts of perches to look out the window. But basically, they spend all day either on the bed upstairs, or under one of the couches. Then at night they bug us when we're watching TV.

There's a transition time in the early evening, right before the younger cat Stella settles down with us, where she runs up and down the stairs, and bounces off the walls.

Sometimes I catch Athena licking herself down there and I like to make the audible announcement, to no one but she and I: "puss licking her own puss!"

And then I giggle. Cause come on, it's funny. And I'm like a 12 y/o boy.

How many pets have u had in ur life? I'm talking normal pets, cats and dogs. I had a turtle for like a year when I was 10. That thing really stunk up the house. I feel bad for my dad having to clean it's enclosure. It was cool putting it down in the backyard. Wherever it was it would make a b line for the pool. Thing could swim like a champ. But we'd only let it in there for like a minute cause of the chlorine. Eventually we did a fam thing where we let it free at a lake.

Anyway. Rika and Molly were the 2 cats my folks had when i was born. Rika was nice, Molly was a bitch. But I've talked abt how she was retarded from eating fertilizer off a neighbors yard. Then we had Kyra the dog, she was a good dog, then Tom the cat...I think I have a whole thread abt him here, then Athena.

So Rika, Molly, Kyra, Tom and Athena. 5 pets in 38 years. 4 cats, 1 dog.

I have had a tonne of fish. Several dogs and 5 cats over the years.

Had an aquarium so several fish at same time. We had the 5 cats at one time. Had 2 dogs and 2 of same cats at one time until 2020 where we lost 1 dog and 1 cat. Currently have 1 dog and 1 cat.

I remember 2 dogs when I was under 10 years old.

My wife wasn't allowed to have a cat growing up so when we got married she asked if she could have one and I said yes, under the agreement it was 'her cat' (she would do everything, not 'our cat'). When she was pregnant though, I did the cat litter because that's supposed to be dangerous to a pregnant woman. When the cat passed, she and my son did the usual 'now we need another one' (to fill the void) and I said no, because the house is always a huge mess and I didn't want a kitten peeing, pooping and ripping everything up. If they kept house better, I would have considered it.

Growing up, we had a standard collie my parents bought when I was 1 or 2. But due to being the prototypical family of "Jews with allergies", that was our only pet, and when he died at 13, he wasn't replaced. I also had a ton of fish, although I spell it correctly.

I mostly had one dog at a time with my ex, but had two for a stint. We inherited cats from family, and eventually had 2 of our own while the kids were young. When I met my (now) wife, she had 4 cats, and a dog who was beloved by the family, and (supposedly) a good judge of character. He took to me right away, which got me family approval.

We got down to 2 cats, and that's been our number most of the time. We always have a dog, and usually get a 2nd one when the first one gets older. But there was a period when we fostered dogs, and we had 4 of our own then, mostly rescues. We'd temporarily foster up to 3 dogs.

Right now we have the standard mix; 2 cats, and 2 dogs - an older one, and a younger one. We occasionally have up to 2 guest dogs stay with us.

So dreams are dumb and no one cares abt them but here I go...

So had a dream last night I got drafted. And in this dream I didn't have any fam or friends apparently. My main worry was leaving enough food and water out for Athena. I had the whole apartment covered in water and food dishes. I was freaked it wouldn't be enough to last through my deployment. Then I woke up relieved.
