This weekend they are counting down the top 40 cassettes of 1981 (listener voted).

A couple observations:
1. Parallel Lines by Blondie came out in 1979. They played "One Way Or Another" as an entry.
2. The Game by Queen came out in 1980. They played "Another One Bites The Dust".

I like this saxophone sound a lot.
I guess it wasn't "rock" enough to make the list. Also until watching the video just now, I didn't realize the singer was also the saxophone player.

Edit: this song rocks more than the Phil Collins song.

My wife heard a bit of the countdown. Her comment was "There is no other saxophone player in the same league as Clarence Clemons". I see he is represented by 3 songs on the countdown (maybe more in the bottom 6).

I did not know about this show. It is On Demand:

Wolfgang Van Halen's album "Mammoth WVH" just got a Grammy nomination, so Wolf celebrates by playing music from other artists at the point where they got their first nomination.

This looks like a regular gig for him.

If there was ever a demonstration of how irrelevant chart positions on the hot 100 are to rock song popularity this list is a good example. The #1 song never charted. And only 2 of the top 10 broke the top 10.

Billboard did not launch a mainstream rock chart until March 1981. Comfortably Numb would likely have been a top-ten hit if the chart had existed in 1980. Two other Pink Floyd songs, On The Turning Away in 1987 and Keep Talking in 1994, went to number one on the rock chart but never appeared on the Hot 100. Here are songs #41 through #50:

41. Summer Of '69 - Bryan Adams (5/1985)
42. Limelight - Rush (55/1981)
43. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen (24/1978)
44. We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions - Queen (4/1977)
45. The Chain - Fleetwood Mac (LP/1977)
46. Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds (1/1985)
47. Layla (Live) - Eric Clapton (12/1992)
48. Highway To Hell - AC/DC (47/1979)
49. Renegade - Styx (16/1979)
50. Faithfully - Journey (12/1983)

We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions should have counted as two songs – which, of course, they are.
