MLB 2025 season

Tonight, I went to the game with my son, my sister, my brother-in-law, his brother, his brother's daughter, his sister and her husband, my niece and her boyfriend. They were in town for a wedding in Cambridge on Saturday. So they came in yesterday. We met for supper at the Spaghetti Factory (with my daughter who joined us for dinner but not the game). They will head to Cambridge tomorrow. But I worked with my Jays ticket rep to secure 10 seats in the 200 level for the game. In the 80s and 90s I got tickets in the 100 level. Since then I have done the 500 level. Until last night, these would have been the best seats I would have been in.

It was fun visiting. My son was a bit distracted watching the Leafs game on his phone at the same time. The Jays had Jose Berrious on the mound. He was awesome. But the Jays offense did not deliver early and they fell behind 2-0 in the 5th.

In the bottom of the 7th Vashio homers again to cut the lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the 8th, we 2 on and 2 out, Vladdy hits a 3 run HR to seal the game. Our setup guy got the save as Hoffman was unavailable having pitched 2 innings yesterday.

Tonight was my 4th baseball game in a row. It was back to the single seats in the 500 level. This one again row 26. It was an aisle seat however. Tonight the opponent was the Cleveland Indians or Guardians as they like to be called now. It was Chris Bassitt City Connect basketball jersey day. I got one. And Chris was the pitcher today. The guy never looks happy. Always sullen. He pitched well despite his sullenness. The game was a back and forth affair and well pitched on both sides. It was 3-3 in the 8th when the Jays got a 2 out double to score 2. Our closer made it interesting with the tieing run at 2nd base but he got the 3rd out for the save.

The Jays were trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd with runners on first and second and Springer at the plate. He popped up to 2nd and everyone thought the inning was over. The ground crew was out and they were starting their promotions. Nope. Catchers interference. Kirk was up next (and he is on fire of late) and delivered a hit to score 2 runs.

Also had a case of a Cleveland player knocked out at first. He was running out a ground ball and ran out from under his batting helmet. At first base Gerero's glove, the ball and the runners head all met at one single point in space and time (I don't know what made contact as they did not do any replays). He went down like a lump. The runner who was moved to second advanced to third when the ball bounced toward the foul ground. He woke up but was clearly not exactly sure where he was so he was removed from the game (he walked off on his own accord with trainer by his side). I think that was my first at a baseball game and I have been going to them since 1985.

My son has the next 2 games of the series.

Rockies lose to the San DIego Padres at home, 21-0.

Looks like I need to find another NL team to follow, since Rockies management clearly does not care. As long as Coors Field is the world's biggest sports bar and turns into the home ballpark away from home for teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Mets or Cubs, then the management continues to make their money. I was always a minor Cardinals fan before the team got here, maybe that's a possibility again.

Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson are finally eligible to play baseball again. MLB has re-instated them. Indefinite ban is now lifted upon death. I wonder if one or both will be in the HOF next year?

Tonight I got to see the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays. The most boring baseball team on the planet. The game itself was reasonably boring until the late innings. They Jays fell behind 4-0, clawed back to 4-3 then feel behind 6-3 before taking a 7-6 lead in bottom of the 8th with Dalton Varshio's second HR of the game -- this one a 3 run shot. Our closer gave up 5 in the top of the 9th including a Grand Salami and Tampa's closer gave up 2 in the bottom of the 9th. Jays lose 11-9.

It was 6-3 going into the 7th, 6-4 going into the 8th and 7-6 the other way going into the 9th.

That giant sucking sound you're hearing come from the Mile High City is the Double-AA team masquerading as an MLB team in the Colorado Rockies, now a worst-in-their-history 7-36. 21 games out of first place, and 1-9 in their last 10.

Yesterday was my next game. Again against Tampa Bay. This one was a pitching duel. Lots of good plays on both sides of the ball. Deciding blow was the only HR of the game -- a 3 run shot -- by Captain Kirk (nobody calls him Captain but they should) giving the Jays a 3-1 victory. The Blue Jays were the only Toronto team to win yesterday. The Sceptres were in Minnesota and lost in OT (they are now eliminated from the playoffs). The Toronto FC and the Leafs and the Jays were on home field/ice.

I've got to try to get to a Tigers game this summer......

Today was my next game and it was against the Tigers. They were riding an 8 game or so win streak including a 5-4 win last night (my son saw that game). Today was bullpen day (facilitated because none of our AAA prospect pitchers are any good and our new free agent signing has spent most of the season on the IL) so the prospect of a win were pretty slim.

The second Detroit batter hit a solo HR so things did not look good. But the Jays pitchers held the Tigers offence to that single run. The Jays offence did nothing through the first 6 innings. In the 7th we got a lead off walk. We did a sac bunt and pinch hit for our 3B with an OF. But did not get a run. Our only remaining IF was playing 1B since Vladdy was DH this day. So we lost our DH.

We got another leadoff walk in the 8th inning. This time we got a pinch hit single by Kirk and tied the game. In the bottom of the 9th the Jays got another run and walked off the Tigers with a 2-1 win.

Today was my turn again at the park. My son saw the Jays beat the San Diego Padres 3-0 yesterday. Today it was the Padres again. The first 4 innings were a pitching duel. The Jays did not get a hit until the 9th batter. It remained scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when that 9th batter Lukes again hit a 2 run HR. The Padres went to their bullpen. Gausman did 7 shutout innings for the Jays. This brought us to the bottom of the 7th, It's hard to describe what happened to the Padres in the 7th. I think it safe to say they self destructed. They committed 3 errors in the inning but to be frank, the scorer was generous counting several errors as hits. 5 runs in the bat around 7th all unearned. The 8th wasn't any better. 9 runs mostly unearned including a grand slam. The last pitcher used was a CF. He only gave up 2 but they Jays at this point were pulling starters and not pushing like normal (single to CF runner just moves 2nd to 3rd for example). Felt kind of sorry for them. Anyway final score was 14-0.

I have one more game from the leadoff pack on the 31st against the Atheltics. My son has 2 against the Athletics as well.
