Minor Ailments

Crap! I thought that you and your siblings were buying the house.

If you thought that you had insurance, keep trying to get them to pay. Those a-holes try to deny everything.

Are you feeling any better at least?
Other than a recent bout with the flu, yes, just fine. The doctors did say I will need surgery at some point. Hopefully it waits until the insurance kicks in with the new job. Not to get to into it, but we're not qualified to buy it on a new mortgage and the mtg company has outright refused to work with us on the current one because we're not on it.

Not that long ago I started taking a single Melatonin gummy every night, 30 minutes or so before bedtime. Just to try and get some better sleep. I always wonder if it really works or not. Then last night, we had run out, so I had none…. And I stayed up past 12:30 a.m. Way later than normal. Guess I got my answer - it works.

Similar story: My drummer was getting leg cramps so he started eating a banana a day. After a month his legs were cramping much less. He skipped a banana and had a bad cramp. Ain't that bananas?!

I used to get a lot of them when we'd practice.
I had mentioned it to my Dr. and he said that it could be (if I remember it right) a symptom of statin build-up. He lowered my dosage. I get a lot less of them now.

When you see ads on TV for pills they call it some sort of, you know, marketing name but then underneath it they print the scientific name. Why do they do that? What does it matter? I mean why do they have to show the scientific name? Any ideas?

There are many other "why do they have to" questions regarding drug commercials. Like why tell us all this stuff if you can only get it from a doctor? Congress passed a bunch of stupid laws, that's why.

I want to know why they always say stuff like "Before taking this drug, tell your Dr if you have this disease or condition."
Shouldn't my Dr. tell me if I have that stuff? What am I paying him for?

They also say "Don't take Qziplotzen if you're allergic to Qziplotzen."
Isn't that like saying "Don't take arsenic if you're allergic to arsenic."

I love the commercials where they spend the first 20 seconds telling you how great your life will be with this drug and the next 40 or 70 seconds listing all the horrible things that could happen to you if you take this drug.

I also like the ones that list as a side effect the same condition the drug is supposed to help with.

As I understand, the US was like most other countries who didn't allow drug advertising. They could only say "ask your doctor about X".

But the big pharma lobby realized that if they advertised drugs to us average shmucks, we'd all march into our doctor's office and ask for these great new drugs; so then big pharma would be infinitely more profitable.

So they lobbied congress, and congress just stipulated that they have to describe all the instructions, warnings and side effects. It's all about making money.

Hahahaha yea, that's freaking insane. Don't eat scallops if you're allergic to scallops. Fucking nonsense.

I remember that. It was big news when they were first allowed to run tv ads.

Is this how it works now? Doctors offices just schedule your follow up now without asking if that day is a good day. All my recent doctor visits end with something like we’ll be seeing you again on July 20th or something and they leave it up to you to kick back that hey that’s not a good day for me, I’d prefer a Monday.

When I check-out at the office (often the same place I checked in), the receptionist has received the doctor's follow-up request on their computer. So they'll say to me "he wants to see you in 6 months", and then they ask me what day/time works best.

I thought things were supposed to move slower and be more personal down south.

Mine ask what time or day of the week is best, then rattle off a few options that are available.
Hopefully they keep doing it that way.

A friend of mine goes to the same Dr. He just told me the other day that he's retiring in about 3 years.
I hope he brings on a new Doc to take over. I hate the idea of finding a new one.

That's the old south. The new south, the state government knows what's best for you with regards to everyone's health so no need to be personal.

I have a skin tab on the back of my right knee. I've taken care of these before but they've always been on my back. And I've had my dad to help me out which is kind of weird. So I would have him tie a string around it really tight and then after a few days of it hurting, and it does hurt a lot, It just falls off. Problem solved. Also it's kinda neat how they turn black before they fall off.

Now I'm thinking I have to take more drastic measures. Quick razor blade boom I can slice that bitch off. It's like two seconds of pain and then I just need to have like towels around to stop the bleeding.

Or I could go to a dermatologist. I do pay for health insurance but that seems like too much work. Gotta drive to an office...meh. Also it's the sissy way to deal with shit.
