You'd think that an entire channel of Metallica (I'm sure they'll play touring buddies, inspirations and whatnot) would be enough to reduce Metallica on other channels.

But I doubt it.

If you have the app, most channels have the spinoff channels like "Just Music" or "Top 100". There's also a Pandora-like option where you can type in any artist/band you want and it'll give you "music that sounds like _____" with one of their songs every few. Plus, you get the same skip/repeat options as Pandora.

I'm down to $4/mo for everything the app offers and that EASILY beats any other music service.

Wasn't part of the reason Newstead left was the no side projects rule? I seem to remember something like that.

All I have to do is say a name of a song I want to hear, which then becomes a radio station based off that particular artist, or a particular band I want to hear a block of music from, or any number of jockless stations available on the service and it's right there. I pay $10.99 a month, could, and just might, go to the year plan. But in that instance you get what you pay for.

Jason Newsted quit Metallica in January 2001. A Loudwire story explained, "Newsted said he left Metallica because it was impossible for him to play a more creative role in the band and that Metallica was spending too much time fighting Napster and not enough time working on new music. But most significantly, he said he needed time to recover from neck and back injuries he sustained from headbanging. 'Watch a couple videos from 1990 and it’s not hard to figure out how I damaged myself,' he said. 'I mean, 200 days a year I would give myself full-on whiplash. In 1990, the doctor told me to stop doing that. Well, I did 10 more years of it after that and now I’m kind of in this spot. I can’t perform as the performer people know me as, like a complete psycho. Doing that kind of touring is not in the cards for me right now.'"

And yeah, I think Jason only got writing credit for two Metallica songs. On one of the singles, the notes say something about "Jason and Kirk...another day off...ARGHH!"

Metallica may have had a riff machine in James Hetfield, but many forget about the genius lying underneath the surface in Jason Newsted.

There was still plenty of room for Newsted to grow, but considering that his project Echobrain was forbidden from release by Hetfield, it was a no-brainer for him to leave Metallica behind

Here's the problems with the Metallica channel.
1) They do a show called "Hero Of The Day" where a listener/fan gets to play a certain number of Metallica songs and talk them up...but the show is at different times each day.

Each day is a different fan. The good news is that the shoes are all in the archives online, but what about some consistency? Do it at noon and 7pm each day or whatever times.

Tue 12 pm 11 pm
Wed 4 pm 9 pm
Thu 1 pm 7 pm
Fri 10 am 5 pm
Sat 11 pm
Sun 11 am 8 pm

(This is also wrong because it's 11:18pm on Saturday and the show also played earlier today.)

The Pearl Jam channel has a similar show which is at noon ET Sundays, 6:30pm ET on Tuesdays at 11am ET on Thursdays.

2) They also don't play anywhere near enough live stuff. As of last I heard, it's two full-length concerts each week. (Again, the Pearl Jam channel has three per day. Yes, they get repeated throughout the week, but it's much more variety.)
