I say it starts with Mad Dog himself. Sorry AJ, I know he's your boy and all.

I wouldn't say he's my "boy". I do like him in small doses, primarily during the MLB season...but...I did have higher hopes for him and his channel when it was announced he was coming to satellite. This stunt he pulled last Thursday and Friday cemented in my mind that Russo is more of a clown than anything. But he provides nice commentary on MLB from time-to-time, so I'll still tune in, especially during weeks when there are no Howard recordings to listen to.

What makes last week even more of a head-scratcher is the fact that Russo is off this week. If it really was a ploy for publicity and to garner attention from the outside, you'd think Mad Dog himself would show up the week after to keep any new listeners that may be tuning in.

But, oh, I guess this week he'll be "touring the country for talented radio hosts". I forgot.

Didn't he say in part of his diatribe that he was planning to cancel his vacation plans? I guess that may have just been talk if he is not on the air today.

Howard had his program guy on today. The guy he fired I guess and he said it was not a stunt. I think Mad Dog just snapped when he found out no one gives a shit about his channel. He blamed everyone but himself. Kinda sad if you think about it. He has no bargining power when his contract comes up for renewal now.

Not that there is an excuse for an on-air meltdown, but I'm sure the guy is under a lot of pressure.

He's a supposed high profile guy brought on board to launch a new sports talk channel (and brand) with his name. He has to build it from the ground up, plus do his own show for 5 hours a day. That's a lot of work and a lot of stress.

He was basically a local sports talk show host on WFAN teamed up with Mike Francessa. They made a great team. Both of them have struggled going it alone.

Your right he is under a lot of pressure. I have no idea why Sirius didn't try to get a guy like Dan Patrick who is known all across the country. He has a built in audience. It may have something to do with Dan being under contract to SI.com. Before Sirius hired Mad Dog I had no idea who the guy was. I guess it should be a tell tell sign that if a guy has never been syndicated there is a very good reason for it. Thats reason........ He knows two sports and thats it.

Dan probably couldn't make near the money he is making now as opposed to Sirius XM. He's sydicated in almost major market, via it from Fox Sports Radio stations or other. I don't really think he'd want to run a channel either. He likes the gigs he's got now just fine.

Plus, as is typical in a situation like this, Mad Dog is probably sulking that Sirius/XM is not doing enough to promote him and his channel.

The fact that program director Steve Torre has been "reinstated" after being "fired" last week should end any doubt that this whole thing was schtick.

Who's to say they didn't try? Maybe Dan Patrick wasn't interested.

Dan Patrick already has a show on XM :)

Yeah his terrestrial radio show is run on delay over satellite. I think Ehilbert was wondering why SiriusXM didn't try to get exclusive rights to Dan Patrick, like they have with Mad Dog. And maybe they did, who knows?

Given that ESPN is a provider and Dan Patrick has a contract with ESPN (I assume), his radio rights may have fallen under a non-compete clause or something. Or his contract was not up or he didn't want to leave ESPN.

He left ESPN a couple years ago and is now with Premiere Radio.
