Listening to stern daily is getting old... thoughts?

Show's better than ever. Some weeks are better than others though, just as it has always been. The only difference for me between now and the old days is that now I listen to each show in its entirety because of the replays and the ability to easily record and archive the show.

With a show that's been around for so long and that has continued to grow and change, you can't expect that everyone is going to continue to enjoy it like they always have. And it seems that those people who no longer enjoy the show like they used to seem to develop a need to tell you that over, and over, and over, and over, and over...

As opposed to telling you how much they like it over, and over, and over? Praise or criticism, they're two sides of the same coin. I never understood why people take critiques of the show so personally, nor why dissent is met with such opposition.

Personally, I think its obvious that the show has changed over the last 5 years. Howard's therapy, age, and Beth have taken the edge off, and the Artie well is dry. I particularly cringe when he censors his staff on racial issues, gay stuff, etc. But at the same time, its still entertaining and it still makes me laugh, so I'm staying. The commercials are longer? Fast forward. To many porn-whores? Fast forward. HTV plugs? Fast forward. Vacations and Fridays off? I've got no answer for those. But after all that, there is still a solid 1 to 2 hours a day of funny. But that's just me; I can understand why people are upset, and I really can't make any good argument against most of their gripes except to tell them to try and appreciate what's left of the show. When the show isn't consistently entertaining for at least an hour a day I'll cancel. I don't think its gotten there yet.

If you enjoy reading the same complaint posts from the same 5-6 people, then more power to you.

Other than the OP (who seems to have joined just to tell us he doesn't like Howard or Bubba), there is nothing new in this thread. Just the same people spewing the same complaints that have been aired in other threads.
 
Still find myself tuning in everyday and listening to 85% of the show or more. Only been a daily listener since Sirius, lsitened avidly the first year, then drifted off and on, but now Im back in. The show has changed even since they started at Sirius, but still entertaining for me, at least.

I'd like to think I'm an exception to this. I was a big fan and have been accused of being a Howard apologist in the past. Hell, I'm the one that was editing up the specials and emailing them to other members. I guess the difference is that I don't fight with those who still find the show entertaining. I'm not here to force my views on any one.

What was it that made you decide to cancel? What changed recently for you?
 
Ok I'll joing in the bitch fest for once. One thing I don't like is on the weekends when the wrap up show is on both Howard 100 & 101 at the same time. Like they are right now.:omfg:

I guess my question is, is anybody else kind of bored with the stern show? Maybe I am brunt out of listening daily for the past year?

Also, for the long-time stern fans, were the shows better on FM even if they were edited? Just curious.

You're right, the show scheduling has become quite predictable. (Oh look, Eric the Midget is calling in again!) (What happened to Wendy? I know Elliot Offen was banned from the building, but he could still call in. What ever happened to Sal Calabro the breast-enhancement guy? I wouldn't call him a wack packer, but still, where'd he go to?)

But even when the show was on FM and televised on E!, they still had a lot of big-breasted girls go in or various freaks better made for TV. In fact, if you just watched the E! show, you'd think the radio show was nothing but naked women.

Howard obviously gets a cut from every subscriber to HowardTV. It's his product, and can you blame him for trying to sell it?

I haven't noticed an increase in fights on slower days. However, if you have an office with a lot of people, you're bound to run into tension somewhere along the way. I wouldn't be surprised if they take some of the smaller disagreements and magnify them for the radio audience. A lot of that stuff seems to be real.


I have Best of XM for NHL and occasional NBA. How many people subscribe to a TV package just for one or two channels out of 15 or 20? I suppose it's all what you make of it.

Does anyone really think the commercials are longer? I remember sitting through several 18 minute commercial breaks on FM radio. On a Sirius show, if you don't count the various bumpers at the start and end of breaks (I don't), it seems like many commercial breaks are closer to 5-7 minutes.

Sure, they'll have a commercial where Howard will talk something up, then he'll get talking to Gary and 15 minutes later, they'll wrap up the commerical break, but that's cool. (Can you really count Howard peeing during a live commercial as a 10 minute commercial?)

Don't think I canceled because of Howard only.

Actually, I love new music, especially indie music. I tried Slacker, loved it, bought Slackers G2 and never looked back. I love the control it gives me in deciding what I want my stations to sound like.

Sirius's channel changes didn't help the cause. I miss the punk channel, they took away the only show my wife listened to, and I absolutely despise single-artist channels (which Sirius seems to think is the future of satrad.)

I'm tired of Sirius's sloppy and lazy way of running a business. I paid $350 for a portable that randomly erases my recorded content and they can't figure out how to update logos and channel names in a reasonable amount of time. Christ, when was the last SL2 firmware update anyhow?

I have serious concerns about Sirius's future. Sirius is not only sitting on between $3 billion and $4 billion in debt. It has also never posted a net profit. There are still questions about whether its merger with XM Satellite will yield enough cost cuts to make the operation profitable. If one of The Big Three goes under, especially if it is GM, Sirius will lose one of its largest sources of new subscribers. There's huge payments due by the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Where's the money going to come from?

Then there's the whole Howard thing which I'm not going to rehash. That's cool there's still people that enjoy the show. Let's put it this way...I don't enjoy it enough to pay over $150 a year for it.

It was the punk channel and Stern during the months up to the wedding that made me cancel.I can still hear the show from time to time but i don't really miss it(i listened religously for 10 yrs)It was time to move on.For music you can't beat slacker and pandora!That much control over what is played is badass!
