#163 - Blues Traveler - But Anyway

One of those songs that was discovered after hearing their biggest hit (Run-Around in this case). A local radio station that used be out of Boulder played the hell out of these guys. Including this one.

#162 - The Mavericks - All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down

Another country band hailing from Bakersfield, CA (Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, among others!) with the legendary Flaco Jeminez tagging along on this one.

#161 - Bruce Springsteen - Glory Days

This coulda been a LOT higher on the list.

#160 - Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)

Arguably one of the best bands to come out of the 80's?

#159 - Motorhead - Ace of Spades

:\m/:

#158 - Pantera - Walk

One of those songs for when it's been that kind of day!

#157 - Hall and Oates - Maneater

We've all dated one at one time.

#156 - Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty - Stop Dragging my Heart Around

Another classic!

#155 - Guns -N- Roses - Welcome to the Jungle

Sitting there watching MTV one night when I was about 14, bored out of my skull, and I see the debut of this video come on. Never heard of these guys, Cool name for a band, like the guitar intro! By the middle of it I was on the phone with my buddies ordering them to turn on MTV, NOW!!!!!

To say I was blown the fuck away is understating it greatly! Nirvana really did away with hair metal, but these guys began the process! Rushed out and bought 'Appetite for Destruction' the next day.

More later....

Great song! First time I heard it was from a box outside a movie theater playing movie trailers. I remember wondering 'wish I knew who that was, I like it'. Fast forward a year or so and "Sweet Child" hooked me in, then I rediscovered "Jungle" on the album and went "Oh THAT'S who that was!"

#154 - Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

So what if the video looks like Happy Days on acid.

#153 - Elton John/John Lennon - Whatever gets you through the night

For some reason, the only John Lennon I could really get into. The Beatles were alright, and short of George Harrison I really wasn't into any of their solo stuff. But this one I took an instant liking to when I first heard it.

#152 - The Romantics - What I Like About You

One of those songs you can't help but blast on your stereo!

#151 - Heart - Straight On

One of those bands I picked up from my sisters' record collection.

I like "Black Hole Sun" and "Fell On Black Days" (and "Seasons") but overall I'm not a Cornell/Soundgarden fan at all. I'm in the minority when I say this, but as soon as his voice goes into the higher register, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me. Songs like "Birth Ritual" or "Burden In My Hand' are completely unlistenable to me.

They are in my library because at one time I liked them but they have not aged well and now when I hear any Soundgarden song I change the channel if possible or at the very least cringe.

What about Audioslave?

You won't like some of my upcoming favorites then.

#150 - Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

Coming in at 27 minutes long, it's one of those songs you could fire up when you leave work, and it'll be playing by the time you pull in the garage at home.

#149 - Sly and the Family Stone - I wanna take you higher

Boom shacka-lacka-lacka Boom shacka-lacka-lacka!

#148 - Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love

In my top 5 from the Van Hagar years.

#147 - Def Leppard - Rock of Ages

Played the hell out of this record back in the day.

What about Audioslave?
Hated it. The songs I heard from first album was like seeing the incredible fiery Rage converted into 'barbecue rock'. "Doesn't Remind Me" from the second album was even worse than Filter's "Take A Picture" to me. And I was already real disappointed with that covers album Rage released right as they broke up.

Interesting fact about Audioslave though. They recorded the songs for the first album, then broke up without even having come up with a band name. I downloaded those leaked tracks and remembered thinking 'they made the right choice, I don't like these at all'. But then months later, the band was back and released and album (that I didn't like at all).

Dug up some stuff for anyone who wants to know more about it:

Chris Cornell's manager Jim Guerinot has confirmed to LAUNCH that the former Soundgarden frontman has left the unnamed project with former Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim C., and drummer Brad Wilk. No explanations were given by management or the combo's record company, Epic Records.

Tom Morello: What were leaked onto the internet were just rehearsal demos. It was very frustrating, especially with a band like this, there is a certain amount of expectation. For some people the initial time that they are hearing it was not in the form that you would have them hear it. In some cases they weren't even the same lyrics, guitar solos, performances of any kind.

Four days after the Ozzfest announcement, Cornell quit Audioslave, only to rejoin six months later. The band won't go into detail about the split except to say it had nothing to do with each other and everything to do with their quarreling managers. "As soon as we started talking to each other, person to person, it became very clear that this was a band that we were all proud to be in," Cornell said. There's been speculation that Audioslave are still divided, but they look more like fraternity brothers than feuding bandmates, chatting about where Cornell bought his boots in between interviews and laughing frequently. Even their breakup has them joking around.

#150 - Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
First time hearing. Incredible talent, but I just can't take more than a couple minutes before I want to turn it off.
#149 - Sly and the Family Stone - I wanna take you higher
First time hearing.
#148 - Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love
#147 - Def Leppard - Rock of Ages
Two classics! Both of these incredible albums have other songs I like even more, but these ones are perennial classics. #guntergliebenglauchengloben

Bitches Brew is an acquired taste to be sure. But it is widely considered one of the top Jazz/Fusion songs and albums ever. But yeah, it's gotta grow on you.
