Jay Leno Rant

I just don't care enough about celebrities to want to know the answers to those questions. Right now I'm listening to WUS, and Jamie Foxx just came in and totally derailed the show. I just don't care about Jamie Foxx, about what he thinks or does.

Why isn't he on Leno or Letterman talking up Sirius for the holidays? I think most of us don't care about him, but maybe he could pull in a few more subs who do.

I like interviews, just not with celebrities. Comics, members of families, etc. are great. And Shatner.

I immediately tuned out when Jamie Foxx entered the studio on TWUS and went back to the West Coast Feed, but damn you sir, Shatner IS A CELEBRITY! :D

Let's be fair - John was at least 7th banana on the HSS, not 10th.

10th would be Scott Salem.

As to the topic, the guy hates Jay for some reason . . . go with the flow. His reasons seem to be far more concrete for hating Jay then they ever were for hating Rosie and/or Kathy Lee, and everyone loved how he hated them.

So what if some of you are Jay fans, you don't have to agree with Howard 100% of the time. He hates Jay, you like Jay. Big whoop. To me, a hate rant is a hate rant, no matter who the target for his anger, and angry Howard is good Howard. But angry Howard is not exactly logical Howard, so taking anything he says at face value is taking it the wrong way, in my humble opinion.

But, what can I say, I like to laugh.

You raise a good question. Are all Howard hate rants the same? I say no. His tirades over years against Gary, Scott and Stuttering John were fairly wonderul. The compilations of those tirades are fabulous. His war against Chevy Chase was not bad .. Chevy provoked it. His war against Bon Jovi was not bad nor was his war against the late Sam. But this war against Leno is not radio gold and is not enjoyable. Why? Because I am a Howard fan (not a Leno fan) and I do not like to see Howard embarass himself as he has. You know that the root cause of this one-sided war was Leno hiring John. Howard paid John little money. He repeatedly told John that John owed his professional existence to Howard and that he could be fired at any time. There was no prospect that John was going to make decent money. So when Leno hired him, Howard should have been happy for John getting what amounted to a major move up the ladder... one he would never get at KROK. Instead Howard got embarassingly nasty... He said Jay had to be cheating on Mavis because he was on the road so much. He let Richard and Sal do that unfunny tape edit with Leno talking about Mavis being fucked by a bunch a black guys (the very worst you could say about someone in Sal's world). He rented against Jay stealing his bits. Jay was schkeevy for not demanding more money. Jay was the lowest motherfucker and he couldn't stand that phony. But in reality Leno does not appear to be so bad. He still married to the same woman. He is apparently considerate and generous to his staff. He is leaving the Tonight Show as promised. He never has said anything nasty about Howard.

I could not care less about any of this BS psuedo/psycho horseshit. He makes me laugh. Any more effort put into analysis of a radio show is a waste of my time. Plus, isn't this almost an exact copy of what you posted the last time you tried to goad me into a fight?

Nice try, but that bait don't float any more.

And yet you replied. Maybe you should just ignore it? You know, take things less personally? The guy wasn't attacking you, he was trying to engage you in a discussion by replying to your post. You don't like the thread - we get it. So just don't post in it; you don't need to comment on everything you don't approve of. Its a live-and-let-live kind of thing.

Actually, I like when he goes off on somebody, even someone I like. Reminds me of the old days. I guess most here are newer listeners and never heard when he railed on for weeks about Chevy Chase, Rosie, Kathy Lee, Stephen Spielberg, Mancow, etc.

It's the WHY he is going on and on and on about Jay, not that he is. I do agree with you that it's good radio when he goes after celeb's as long as it's for a good reason.

Don't care about the why. Otherwise I would not have laughed about Spielberg's black kids. Spielberg is 10 times the person that Howard or even Jay ever will be, but I was howling from the moment Howard put on the Snagglepuss voice and started in. From all accounts, Kathy Lee is a pretty nice person and Rosie was a beloved talk show host, but boy did I love him busting their chops.

What can I say, I'm a simple guy.:idunno:

He doesn't want to snatch away the "Employee of the Month" trophy from Lisa G. She worked real hard at promoting Sirius/XM on "Good Morning New York".

I wouldn't characterize what you wrote as horse shit. You touched on a lot of reasons as to why Howard might feel the way he does about Jay Leno. None of Howard's fans may ever know the truth, but if we've heard the shows correlating to John's departure we could all certainly see that Howard hasn't wavered too far from his original set of rants on the topic.

Because Jay has now(after all of these years)addressed Howard by name and has inferred to Howard's place among his changing fan base, Howard has reignited his passion of hate towards Jay.

Maybe I'm missing something with Howard's new anger, but I think Jay was trying to discuss his move to prime time hours on television and away from his regular slot in late night to that of Howard's move of being on for free and playing to the everyman and his move to a pay subscription radio format.

It could come off as clumsy on Jay's part, but I think that's what he was going for. I also think that if Jay can cut Howard down in the process, then so be it.

I think that Lisa would be a big enough woman to share. Speaking of big, where's Oprah?

Even more proof that the show is in decline. Get over it, we know you despise Jay. Find another way to kill 20 minutes.

The Jay Leno rant just shows why Howard continues to go to therapy. Even with all his success, the guy is completely insecure.

I actually think NBC is setting Jay up for a fall. I think the NBC guys want to get rid of him, but they're in a tough position because he does get ratings. However, if they take him off "The Tonight Show" and put him on another show that then tanks, they could dump him, and no one else would want to sign him, IMO.

If only we could all be as insecure as Howard.

Narcissist describes Howard better then insecruity does, IMO

There could be video available on the Internet of this, but I think I saw it on Olbermann's show the other day where Keith interviewed Jay about the move. Apparently the producers crunched the numbers and found out that programming a talk show, even with Jay's salary, was more cost effective than trying to do battle against the ever changing "law room" and "autopsy" shows. Jay has proven that he can get ratings with the talk show format, so it doesn't matter to NBC if they're number three in that time slot because the advertisers will still be there and they will put up competitive enough numbers to justify it.
