Hurricane Season

No flooding in my community. Many years ago we smartly elected to tax ourselves a bit higher to invest in a tall levee system. Held up through Katrina and this one.
That's extremely encouraging! Hopefully with the roof and felt paper still up there you didn't get much water inside and you can dry things out without too many repairs. You've got to get the windows opened up to get the air flowing. It'll help keep mold from growing.

Any word on when you'll be able to get back to check things out for yourself?

My dad and my brother made the trip there yesterday, and knowing them, they likely tarped up the roof already, in addition to checking their own homes.

I kinda dread going back, and the people there say it's miserable. Along with no electricity, still no running water (except for Bayou Lafourche ) So I booked the hotel through Saturday night as a minimum stay. Hotel bill will be expensive, but it allows me to keep working remotely.

That's great that you have a team on the ground! Hopefully they can get inside soon and check things out.

I'm glad that you get to keep working too. That's got to take a lot of the stress off of things.

Kids doing OK with all of the craziness?

For real, work is keeping me occupied at least. My kid is hooked on the iPhone and iPad - basically the same thing she does at home - but is getting bored. Stir crazy for sure. We get out the hotel in the evening and go eat or look around.

Well this sucks:

and it reminds me of what happened down here a few years back:

With the Ft. Lauderdale nursing home they really screwed up. They were located across the street from a hospital and the hospital even called them to ask if they wanted to bring the residents over and they were like, "nah, we're good". Freaking morons.

BTW, New Jersey and NYC got slammed by the rain from Ida. Lots of people who never got flooded before were under water.

After all the destruction from Ida in Louisiana... way more people died from Ida in the Northeast.

I usually monitor the National Hurricane Centre. Aside from the bad ones that we hear about on the news there are many more storms that never make the news. I am fascinated by the formation and tracks they take.

There is currently a belt of "low pressure" just north of the yukitan peninsula. They say it has a 30% chance of cyclone formation in 5 days (Ida had the same % at one point) due to unfavourable upper level winds. But if it does form the tracked inpact is once again directly on New Orleans.

Don't forget about Larry!
Well I guess I'm already boarded up and already evacuated at least!

Now there 30% and unfavourable winds has a qualifier.

Unfavorable upper-level winds are expected to limit development through Monday, but environmental conditions could become marginally favorable for some gradual development by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Update: electricity expected back by September 29th. Running water just started trickling back today from what I hear. Cell service is spotty.

Still haven't been back yet, but I've got lots of pictures of my house and property. I filed a claim with the insurance company, waiting to hear back from the adjuster.

I've got a hotel booked through Friday night. Likely will go back on Saturday.
