Paczki’s aren’t a well known item around here, since we’ve got King Cakes. But then just now I saw 6 count box of them at Walmart, so I bought one. Damn they’re good!

A lot of the local bakeries up here make them every year, and I look forward to them.
I'm bummed that I missed out this year. They are pretty much over-glorified jell-filled donuts, but kind of like beignet's, they have their own special thing going on. I'd be really tempted to trade paczki day for beignet day though.

Pączki, pronounced "pōnch-kee," is the plural of paczek, pronounced "pōnch-ek." The mark under the "a" is an ogonek, which means "little tail"and indicates that the letter is to be pronounced with a nasalized sound. Don't ask me how to do that. I'm not Polish. Here is a recipe:

I don't think I've had that flavor before.
As long as I can still get regular donuts, I could trade trade paczki's for beignets.
I love my state. Last year, they sent each household an $850 check from the budget surplus, to help with costs due to inflation. And now, each of us received a $450 check to help with heating costs. Maine, the way life should be.

There are some economic theorists who believe that giving people extra spending money fuels inflation -- like pouring gas on a fire.
Not putting down your state btw, just reporting what I hear some people are saying. Wish our state would share the rare surplus.

I don't think that's right. When a government has a deficit and gives out money, that causes government costs to rise, which leads to inflation. Also, giving raises or increasing wages causes inflation. But in general (not those cases), it stimulates the economy.
That only happens with targeted assistance. Giving everyone money to counter real inflation stimulates the economy and reduces poverty. The issue is where the money comes from.

I have probably heard it in the context of the Government of Canada which has a huge deficit. So that would fit the first scenario you listed. I, not being an economist, missed the part about the deficit in that statement.
And in Florida, giving out all of that money stimulates the economy.

I grew up in "evil" territory, in suburban north Jersey. It seemed that the people around me liked where they lived, and appreciated the proximity to NYC. I certainly heard about people calling NJ a shithole, but they were obviously referring to the shitty parts of the state, not where we lived. But the attitude was nothing like when I graduated and moved to Mass. Massachusetts natives had this weird pride and arrogance about how they lived in the greatest place on earth - that "Center of the universe" expression is dead-on. The reality is that every other place on earth offers something that Massachusetts doesn't have - but you can't tell them that.
When I started my job, I had a coworker who was born and raised in Haverhill Mass. She never realized (until I pointed it out) that Massachusetts shares a border with NY (on the western border). There are so many Mass natives who just never go anywhere, except when they vacation with all the other Mass-holes.
