I don't know what my total tax would be. My marginal fed rate is about 20%, but I don't know if SSI is on top of that. My state is about 6%. And then my prop tax is unrelated to my income.

When I started working where I currently do (22 years ago), someone used to collect the bottles to get the nickel for recycling them (bringing them to Maine). I don't know if this is true or not, but I was told he was just letting the bottles stack up in bags at his house (not driving them an hour to Maine and turning them in). Then he died. I feel bad for the poor sonofabitch who had to deal with all that!

In SK they have signs that returning bottles from out of province was illegal. Since it is essentially government money being returned.
The Saskatchewan system is quite interesting. They killed 2 birds with one stone. To get a return a bottle you need to go to a SARCAN site. This is a 'company' which takes your bottles, milk cartons, oj containers, anything that has a deposit and will give you back your deposit. They get re-embursed by the government and process the recycling for 'profit'. The second bird is every employee at SARCAN is mentally challenged. So people that would otherwise have issues getting jobs in the private sector. They can work there for as long as they like but the job experience gained will help them get employment as well. The profit is also redirected into help for the mentally challenge as the overseeing group for that owns SARCAN.

I guess that could be like a fun hobby or something but I've always associated collecting bottles with homeless ppl with grocery carts that I've seen in movies...I think I may have seen them irl when we would take trips to South Philly but I'm not sure I'd that's a real memory or not.
Changing topic, and I imagine most of you know this but the further south you get in fl the less south it is. Like when I moved here from Philly I came to Palm Beach County. The major difference was that ppl seemed to move slower but everything else was more or less the same. Same types of local governments and all that. Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach are rhe major population centers and very metropolitan. Things get much more spread out north of pbc until you get to the Orlando area. North of Orlando and you feel like you're in the deep south.

Curious, I investigated. It stands for "West of the Easterly Line of the State". It's used to label areas that don't have towns in them.
Now, I hate to break it to the knuckleheads who came up with this term but... EVERYTHING IS WEST OF THE EASTERLY LINE OF THE STATE! What a term!! That's like if the Colonials named the states WOTA's -- "West Of The Atlantic Ocean". Maine = WOTA 1, NH = WOTA 2, Vermont = WOTA 3.... I think I rolled my eyes so hard I fell off my chair when I read about this back in the day.

I've never heard of this. I imagine some longtime Mainers have. According to an explanation I read, the "easterly line" is a specific line going from one point to another within the county. It may follow a range of mountains. It's not just the eastern border.
