History of HS, Act II - Appreciation thread

I'm listening right now and they have DeBella talking about his reaction to the Louie Louie parade and Howard fans that showed up. I was there, he claims there was only 12 Stern listeners, and how they had no effect on him. What a liar, there was a group that kept running in front of his parade car with Howard signs, that really irritated him, and then the rest of us were along the route heckling him. Also at the end of the parade at the Art Museum MMR was looking for DeBella, but I saw him scurrying away with huge body guards about 15 blocks away. We yelled crap at him but he crawled away like a coward.

I like how he claims now it didn't bother him, but Howard did totally crush him, personally and professionally.

too bad the special won't cover the year when DeBella came on the show to make nice and join Howard's station in Philly. That was the press conference where the Zookeeper pointed at Penny Crone and she started crying. Or before than when Captain Janks took his ex-wife out on a date! Great stuff!

DeBella sounded so smarmy and it sounded like he was trying to minimize each incident/event. Douche-chills.

The Rocky and Bullwinkle stuff was funny. Sam and Bobcat was great. The discussion with his mom about the underwear and rectal temp, etc. is always entertaining. I enjoyed the parts with the wackpackers like Gina-Girl and Man. It was funny to hear Howard keep repeating "gina-dance" on the last week of shows cuz it was stuck in his head like stuff gets stuck in mine.

The bits they did were mostly really bad, IMO. There's a little humor in some, but not as much as Howard seems to think. Homocop has hardly a laugh in it, the Lucy stuff is older than Gilbert's act. Manson, Ned and the guys at BTLS Show blow them away, IMO.

Some other things that I found really funny.

When Howard was doing the Rob Lowe Dial a Date, he said "You're 5'5" and 130 lbs? Hold on a second... Oh gee i musta lost ya there..."

The calls into Uncle Milty crack me up, even tho they were in another special.
"Uncle Milty, do you hang to the right or the left or do you just wrap it around your waist?"
"Do you ever wear knee socks so you can just tuck the tip in?"

Gilbert just walking into the studio un-announced: Howard "What are you doing here Gilbert, we don't have breakfast today..."

I laughed so hard it hurt when Fred was describing the Super Bowl party incident where Jackie stuck his finger in some guy's ass. I can just picture Jackie doing something like that without a second thought or a moment's hesitation.

I like how Jackie talks about it like it's no big deal. Meanwhile, everyone else talks about it like he raped the guy!

Hey man, this was a joke man, you turn on me like a rabid dog man.

Just catching the replay now, I remember when they got together and rang a bell for each man and then added them all up.

Sam was the best.

Edited because it sounds like they are going to ring the bell and count, good stuff.

My favorite was the Fred dial-a-date game and follow up. When he calls in to say he will be in late and hangs up was hilarious. Also him denying boning his future wife, was classic.

I fast forwarded past the dial-a-dates and anything with dice, other then that I've loved the special.

I just heard Fred's bit (for the first time) as US Open Sores where he said he had a special guest and then dumped the ashes of Anne Frank on the table. Funniest bit ever.

The only thing that bothers me is that we will probably have another year of no mtt's and no specials because they will be working on part 3. I'm assuming Christmas '09 will be 1990-2000 and Christmas '10 will be 2000-2010, the potential end of the show.

It's all done much better than the than Act II since they did the smart thing by making the shows manageable and not over six hours.

Some observations:

-Sam Kinison is so missed and would be great on the show today. I think if he lived he would give Howard shit for being so lazy (unless he would have sold out, too).

-Fred is truly crazy and should not causally swear! Also, he made an interesting Freudian (or should I say Fredian?) slip by almost suggesting that Howard knew Beth BEFORE they become a couple like someone in the media reported.

-His parents are even crazier. Howard doesn't have to keep telling us (maybe the reason I'm crazy is because my mother did this and my father did this...the tapes and their interviews speak for themselves!).

-I'm listening to the underpants segment The drug investigation is such crazy spin. Am I alone in that? I realize they exagratte and not everything is the truth but this was no creation....and Howard during the interview segment was so fumferring! You think Boy Gary could AD LIB that he found drugs for some guests? If anything, Gray was the one who really would have gotten in trouble for that and Howard could have said he was joking!

It's entertaining on all levels. I don't want to defend the laziness train but I can almost see why they are holding back on tapes specials. Some of this stuff has been played through MTT or other specials. If they had been playing all those specials through the months, it might sound repetitious. I think if they worked on it, both could compliment each other (the mini specials could be a nice build up for "History" or vice versa).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed in both Act I and Act II that Fred seemed to go out of his way to throw at least one f-bomb into every clip.

I probably heard less than 50% of Act II, but Howard's interview w/ George Takei where he asks George point blank (yet jokingly) if he's gay and George denies it, was the most interesting thing I heard all week. George did seem to drop some hints, but he let them go along with the Uhura stuff.
