I either shop at Fry's or Neighborhood Walmart. I usually try to shop once a month, but when I have a full cart of groceries. I do the regular checkout. Most of the time there is like only one lane open, which is so annoying. Usually, the cashier can be freakin' slow or some customer holding up the line somehow. I sort of prefer self-checkout, unfortunately there isn't enough space to place all of your groceries.

Anyone shop at Aldi’s? They opened a couple of them in the nearby area.
I find them weird. Aside from a nice sized produce department, all the aisles in the middle lack cohesion. It is hard to figure out why they have some essential items but not others. Chunks of aisle space tied up with plants and plush toys.
Yet I know people who love the place.

There is a few Aldi's near me. I haven't shop at one yet. But I have been stepped into one and sort of reminds me of Smart and Final. One reason, I probably shop there I never carry a quarter on me or in my car for the grocery cart.

Don't know if you have them or ever hear of them. There are some Winco's in Phoenix, and they are reasonable. One major requirement is you must bag your own groceries. Can't be any difference going to self-checkout.

There are a few around here, both where we used to live and now. My mother-in-law seems to love them, but that figures, because she's odd herself. Everything is in boxes. It's a very minimalist kind of place. Some people say they have the best prices on things.

Mrs. Scotch and I went to one about a month ago, and got a few things, and that'll probably be it. She's a big grocery shopper. Between the local supermarkets and discount stores, Trader Joe's, BJ's/Costco, Wal-Mart and Target, she knows what to get and where. So if Aldi's was worthwhile, she'd add it to her rotation.

I took the plunge yesterday and am now a proud card carrying Costco member.

I don't really need it but I figured if I just get the gas there for a year it should pay off the $65 membership.

There's so much awesome stuff. I got a bunch of fruit and stuff to be healthy and I bought turkey burgers and a bunch of fucking cheese and shit like oh my God I love this place.

I was so excited I couldn't even type/dictate clearly....

This fits perfectly here

They bulldozed the long-standing Fox Run mall in Newington NH, which is basically Portsmouth. Putting the Costco in here is great news for us, as the nearest Costco currently is around 40 minutes to our north or south, and both of those are in tax states. This would be 10 minutes from us, and tax-free.

Here is a website that shows almost 4,000 grocery lists that were found in stores. I suppose this could also be posted in the "Things nobody needs" thread. :p
I see Olive Oil. I always need that. In the summer, I go get the Lemon Olive Oil at the Farmers Market. Otherwise, it's on my grocery list. And eggs.
Eggs is probably the #1 item on the top of most people's lost lists.

I’m normally a tech over paper guy, but I don’t want to walk around the grocery store at all times with phone on, so for grocery shopping I’m still a paper list person
I used to do that. But 1/2 the time I would forget the list or forget a pen. I never forget my phone.

We have our first outdoor Farmers Market this morning. I'm going now to see if they have that Lemon Olive Oil stand. And find out where is Bri the Baker
Will Bri keep a stand at the Farmers Market or will Bri be at her new Bakery. Won't have time to wait in line either way. I have a big day

I use an app on my phone.
I add items and have them arranged by their general location in the store, so I don't have the phone on all the time.
I cross items off (by clicking) so I don't have to type them back in each time I go.
I know that I'll forget to bring a paper list, and the Mrs always texts me with extra items, so I need the phone anyway.

There's also the Costco Connection Magazine you get with your membership. I have yet to read but keep them in a pile to go back and read someday, along with the AARP's, Eve Longoria was on the front cover this month. I have the copy on my stairs for now and see it anytime I go up the stairs waiting to be viewed

Longoria is a major investor in Siete Foods, an Austin company (purchased by PepsiCo in 2025) that produces gluten-free tortillas, tortilla chips, salsa, enchilada sauce and other Mexican-American foods.

She also has been continuing the food travel shows originally hosted by Stanley Tucci in Italy. She's done one through Mexico, Spain, and now France. So she's got that credibility.

The most interesting thing about her is that she's Mexican, but grew up in Texas speaking English. Then at age 40, she learned Spanish, and speaks it fluently.

Cento Fine Foods was founded in 1963 in Philadelphia as a distributor of Italian food products. They launched their own brand in 1982 and eventually acquired five other brands. Cento now produces more than 1,000 foods. Their slogan is "Trust your family with our family." Two plaintiffs from California are not very trusting.
