And I thought it'd be BTLS with the anti-Japanese earthquake commentary. :D

Anyway, I didn't think he was the Aflac duck, thinking someone else took that job a long time ago.

It's really amazing how vulgar and even racists some of his jokes are, and he gets fired over this. I thought they were pretty funny actually. Should I be ashamed?:clueless:

“Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac,â€
No one thought they did.

“There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times.â€
Who is an insurance agency to dictate what people feel? Does Aflac have a formula that calculates how much time to pass before a comedian can make jokes?

Aflac is just pandering. Gilbert was making 9/11 jokes and that didn't seem to bother them. Fucking hypocrites.

Oh dear, Aflac's market value is being washed away!

Insurer Aflac's shares down 3 percent after quake | Business | Dallas Business, Texas Bu...

One thing I always find funny when someone is fired for being "insensitive" is that corporations have fought in court for the ability to donate to political campaigns as a first amendment issue, yet they keep their employees on a tight leash. It seems that corporations have more freedom than people.

The first amendment is essentially a protection against government tyranny, but at this point I'm more concerned about corporate tyranny. Fear of termination already has a chilling effect on speech, and it's not necessarily about cracking edgy jokes.

If we value the first amendment, why don't we value it in our personal lives? It seems that everybody wants to shut everybody else up these days. It seems that some people have a full-time job looking for things to be offended about.

Is this such a surprise? The offended wield a lot of power. Zuckerberg can suck it, anonymous posting is here to stay.

I googled some news story and look what I found on the comments section.

Gilbert Gottfried got fired: Celebrities rush to his defence

What all these celebs seem to have forgotten is that Gottfried wasn't hired by Aflac to be a comedian. If Gottfried is so stupid as to realize he shouldn't be making fun of 75% of his employers customer base as they face a nuclear holocaust and are bury several thousand dead, well he deserves to be fired.

He didn't get fired for being tasteless. He got fired for being clueless!"

I wish this bitch posted here. I would let her have it. Does that comment make sense to anyone? It's not like Gilbert was saying any of his offensive comments as the Aflac Duck. Most people don't know who Gilbert is anyway.

So according to this dumb cunt's logic Gilbert should also censor his comedy act?

When it comes to their voice over actor and the people he denigrated on a daily basis for the past decade, the Japanese get special treatment. Either it's all okay or none of it is okay.

If Aflac was genuine about its own outrage, it should have never hired the guy in the first place, or fired him after the first incident. Here is a guy who, while the voice of that retarded duck, called the president a nigger on the Howard Stern Show, which offended Howard so much it was edited out of subsequent broadcasts.

Aflac hasn't a leg to stand on if one considers the facts of the case.

Since when do we live in a world where you get to say whatever you like without any consequences? Gilbert is a major flake if he thought it would be ok to fire off some off colored remarks about the ongoing Japan crisis when he does work for a company with a large amount business in Japan. Kinda moronic if he valued the relationship and income regardless of his persona.

When you are not saying whatever you like about the Japanese, according to Aflac anyway.

By the way, if Sal actually auditions and lands the Aflac gig, the universe might implode as a direct result of Aflac's complete lack of awareness about who they hire.
