I love it when lawmakers suggest that the constitutional rights of Americans should be decided by popular vote. That would've been great for some of our country's past rulings, like slavery, religious freedom, and voting for women, right?

I think we're still in the realm of a discussion of current events. Scotch is right--the Supremes vote pretty consistently one way, with Roberts often being the swing vote. That's just a fact.

Yes, but everyone (including the SC) splits on classifying this as a religious issue, when it's 100% not. It's a civil right, that's it. It has nothing to do with what you believe God says, or what any religion dictates. That would relate to recognition by a church, or having a minister do a ceremony.

If this was made clear, I think there'd be less opposition.

I've long been in favor of the government only giving out civil unions. If anyone wants a marriage, go to a church. Marriage is a religious sacrament; civil union is a legal status.

Well it won't be long before the courts are clogged with same sex marriage divorces. As in any marriage gay or heterosexual their will be fighting
the kids , physical violence and in some cases worse . And who suffers the most in any divorce , THE KIDS

That is true.

My mom divorced my dad. I've not seen him since I was 4.

I was married for 7 years & got divorced. I'm thankful we didn't have any children.

Marriage has lost out. Long before gays demanded the right to marry.

If evangelicals really wanted to uphold the sanctity of marriage, they wouldn't allow divorce

I agree with the concept, but it's always been called a marriage license, so changing the name would be seen by many as more obtrusive, whereas the way it's being done now has zero affect for the "traditional" marriage.

My mom left my dad when I was 2 .My 1st marriage had a son , we divorced he was 2 . I've always been there 4 him . Dated a gal with a 5 year old . She was on welfare . I helped her get her life together and. Supported her daughter. 9 years went by got married had a son and she ran off with a dude from work and took our 2 year old son with her and it's been HELL since then .I was 2 and both my son's were 2 when shit hit the fan . It would've been easier to rub 1 out and shot it in the toilet.

I'm curious to see what the divorce rates for homosexuals will be in 10, 20 years. I don't have any thoughts one way or the other, and with marriages there will come divorces, but it will be interesting. Or not. I mean, no one cares what the divorce rate is for mixed-race marriages.

I'm 100 percent for gay marriage, so remember that when I ask where will it end? What if someone wants to marry two people? Or 20? Or a tree or their dog? You can apply all or most of the same arguments for gay marriage. Will it ever become bigoted to say "Marriage is between a man and just one other man, and not his herd of alpacas"?

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. My parents divorced when I was eight. I've sworn I'll never do that to my kids, so I put up with Godzilla I mean Mrs. Casual.

my guess is that the divorce rate will wind up being the same for gay and straight people after the 10 or 20 years u mention. just a guess.

well as for other types of marriage the non human type is a non issue cause there cant be consent between people and objects or animals.

as for plural marriage im all for it. it gets a bad name cause of how it has been used to abuse underage girls and of course thats awful. but i dont see anything wrong with 3 (or more) people being married if they are all of age and consenting.

People are not born polygamists. And I hate "slippery slope"premises; they're always insulting.

Don't you mean your Mrs. Casual and HecticArt is Mr. Casual. :p

ur right. they are not related and the way u are born argument is sound. but as separate issues im still in favor of polygamy being legal. what does it matter if multiple adults want to chose to be married?

People can live any way they'd like, but the legal rights of being married cannot be applied to more than one couple.
