Do you think CPS should take children away from people who feed their kids fast food?
People can do what they want, it doesn't affect me. But if you added a few of the other big chains, like Taco Bell etc, that number would approach 100%. It seems crazy from several standpoints. And I've raised more than my share of kids.

Fast food is food.
Barely.
I fed my kid fast food and she's fine.
A couple of times a week won't kill anybody. But my question is why? Do you pick it up on the way home, or all go there together, or maybe on the way to bringing the kid to some activity? I'm kind-of fascinated by the business model of a place like McDonald's; they've basically made the same shit food for decades, yet nearly everyone keeps going there.

When we were shuttling the kids around on a regular basis, and didn't have time to make dinner, we'd occasionally stop at Subway. But mostly, we'd get (local) pizza or subs, or chinese, or make subs at home, or have leftovers, or heat-up a frozen dinner. Most of the kids' activities were either before dinner, or after dinner, so we didn't need to get it on the way.
I eat fast food multiple times each week and my doctor says I'm in great shape.
You exercise about 500 times more than the typical American. And it seems like your other meals are pretty healthy, like the oatmeal for breakfast and such.

Then why did your doctor took a pic of you. Pulling burgers out of your ass?

It isn't "shit food", it's just food you don't like. I like it. Also Popeyes, Jack in the Box, Whataburger, Raising Cane's, Five Guys, Shake Shack, Mod and a bunch of others.

The business model is they sell food that people like to eat. There's no big mystery to it.

We bought fast food whenever we wanted fast food. I wasn't cooking pot roast and casseroles at home.

OK. We ate out constantly. Memegirl's mom cooked a bunch of meals for her, but her dad mostly eats out.

No, my other meals are far from healthy. I just eat whatever I want. Last night I had an almond butter cinnamon biscuit with coffee, a plastic pack of salami with cheese and crackers and a big bowl of ice cream.

I ate this way long before I started cycling.

Then why did your doctor took a pic of you. Pulling burgers out of your ass?

Excellent question.

I used to eat McDonald's when I was young. I still go there on occasion. I like most of what they make.

It's shit food. The burgers are not real natural beef, everything's been processed and frozen, and the chicken nuggets and fish are 50% breading, 45% filler, and 5% meat. The bread is crappy, the vegetables stale, wilted and paltry, the fries are pathetic, they barely contain anything but deep-fry oil. Everything is overloaded with fat, grease, and sodium. And how about those hash browns?

If I went to a supermarket, I can cheaply buy ingredients for a burger and all the fixings, that would be 5000 times better, cooked on my grill and in my oven. I can't say that about most restaurant food.

McDonald's is shit food.

Everything is real. Everything is natural. There is nothing other than what is.

The bread is bread. I don't eat vegetables. The fries are delicious because they are filled with oil. Fat, salt and sugar are what humans crave. They are yummy.

Apples and oranges. A McDonalds burger is nothing like a homemade burger. It's a whole different kind of thing. It's possible to like both.

I make a great homemade burger, about twice a year. It takes a lot of planning, shopping and time to get all of the ingredients there and get the grill going. I can't come close to making a McDonalds quarter pounder, though.

McDonald's is shit food.

McDonalds food is yummy. I love the quarter pounder with cheese (no pickles, no onions), the fries and the chocolate shake. It's kind of sad that you have to pass such harsh judgement on something that brings so much joy.

For once I'm with meme. I tolerate McD's, I don't go there as much as I use to. But there burgers are alright if you haven't had one in a long time.

The fries are delicious because they are filled with oil. Fat, salt and sugar are what humans crave. They are yummy.

I do like there fries, there not much fast food places that can make good fries anymore. Beside Burger King, In & Out and Freddie's.

I can make a good homemade juicy burger as well on the skillet. I usually make it like once or twice a month. It hardly takes much ingredients. I just use ground beef, egg, milk, bread crumbs and my special seasoning.

I eat whatever the heck I want. My metabolism keeps me a good weight.

Time determines my next meal.
I'll gourmet cook when time allows, especially on weekends. On busy workdays, we'll hit up a fast food place.

So you like it, but you call it "shit". That's kind of sad.
What would you call this?
The fries are delicious because they are filled with oil. Fat, salt and sugar are what humans crave.
What's sad is your lack of differentiation between "good" and "good for you".

Good for you, but it's a different story when you're making decisions for a child who's likely to develop obesity-related health issues.

I don't want to sound like Debbie Downer, I don't like those types of people. I'm not advocating that people eat only healthy meals. Here's my problem with McDonald's: it's not just unhealthy food; most restaurants serve unhealthy food, and/or unhealthy portions, and anyone can eat unhealthy at home, too. But McDonald's has the formula down to a science; the salt, sugar, and fat are like nicotine; and their food is a perfectly cost-effective way to deliver it to the most people, at the highest profit.

Five Guys at least has the decency to give you a real meat hamburger with real condiments, and real fries. McD's has scientifically determined how to give you the most satisfaction for your craving, with the maximum amount of addictive ingredients, at the lowest cost to the company. I don't feel good about supporting that.

I acknowledge all that. But I give them credit for coming up with a formula that works.

All in moderation for me.. fast food maybe 2 or 3 meals a week at most.

How are McDonald's fries not real?
It's potato.

Typing this in Popeyes as I wait for my order.

I can't even parse that sentence. For me, "good" is "good for me".

We let Memegirl make her own food decisions. She's never been overweight or had weight related health issues. Eating McDonalds doesn't make you overweight. Eating more calories than you burn makes you overweight. You can do that with kale.

So you hate McDonalds for their efficiency? For finding an optimal solution?

Haters gonna hate.

ETA: Wait, I think I figured it out. Five Guys isn't as bad as McDonalds because it's boojier. It's the cheapness of McDonalds you don't like.

Today at work we had a lunch visit from a local gym. They are selling heavily discounted memberships. They brought healthy veggie wraps to feed us.

I brought in a "Sweet and Spicy Bacon Burger" from Whataburger.

It's 1080 calories. I also had a large fries, probably another 500 or 600 calories.

It was good, and that was good for me.
